A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE AND GENUINE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO OUR GOOD FRIEND, MS. NAOMI EVELYN MEDLIN OF CHARLESTON COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO OFFER OUR SPECIAL THANKS FOR HER BOUNDLESS COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION IN RESPONDING TO THE MANY REQUESTS OF OTHERS THROUGHOUT HER DISTINGUISHED CAREER.

Whereas, Naomi Evelyn Medlin was born in Walterboro, South Carolina to Benjamin Heyward and Hazel Ruth Smith Langdale; and

Whereas, Naomi Medlin devoted her initial four years of public service, beginning in 1975 through 1979, to effective operations of the Office of Governor James B. Edwards, where she worked closely with both houses of the South Carolina General Assembly on bipartisan activities on behalf of the people of the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, Ms. Medlin followed this with almost eighteen years (June 9, 1983 to January 10, 2001) as Assistant to the Medical University of South Carolina President James B. Edwards. She was instrumental in keeping lines of communication open and ensuring full public access to the wide range of the Medical University’s services, as well as receiving all visitors and colleagues entering the Office of the President in an unparalleled manner; and

Whereas, Naomi Medlin has evidenced excellence, compassion, and impeccable judgment in all of her duties, earning the highest respect and commendation from the thousands of people she assisted, including the members of the General Assembly and their staff; and

Whereas, it is most befitting for the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to publicly commend Ms. Naomi Evelyn Medlin for her many years of devoted and outstanding service to the Palmetto State and extend their warmest wishes for continued happiness and health. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their sincere and genuine appreciation to Ms. Naomi Evelyn Medlin of Charleston County on the occasion of her retirement from the Medical University of South Carolina and to offer their special thanks for her boundless commitment and dedication in responding to the many requests of others throughout her distinguished career.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Naomi Evelyn Medlin.
