Welcome to my class! As we start the year it is important to go over a few rules on how Mr. Barker’s classroom works. Please follow the rules listed below. It is important that we get off to a good start!
#1 Be Prompt:You should be prepared to work when the bell rings.
- Be in your seat.
- Have yourone inch binder and spiral notebook
- Have a pen or a sharpened pencil.
- Have any homework on your desk.
- Listen to instructions
#2 Be Polite: You are to remain in your seat.
- Always raise your hand and wait until Mr. Barker acknowledges you before speaking.
- Never talk while Mr. Barker is talking.
- If you need to leave your seat for any reason, raise your hand.
- If the teacher has a visitor, quietly remain seated.
- Never argue with classmates, teachers, or administrators.
- If you have a problem with the class or question about homework,
grades, etc, talk to me before or after class or school.
- NEVER TALK DURING A TEST!!!
#3 Be Positive:Only you can make the effort to learn and advance yourself.
- You are responsible for your actions!!!
You will need the following supplies for my class:
- Several #2 pencils and black or blue and red pens
- 2single subject notebooks
- 1 one inch binder with dividers
- Box of colored pencils
- Scissors
- Package of loose leaf paper (college ruled)
- Flash drive
- Box of Kleenex
- Hand Sanitizer
Assignments: Expected to be turned in on time
- Assignments are due at the beginning of class
- All late work should be put in the clear basket on my desk, make sure you have your name, desk #, and period # on it. Also write on the paper if you were absent when the assignment was given. Any paper turned in without a name on it is an automatic 10 points off.
- Make up work-is the responsibility of the student. Each student is responsible for getting notes, classwork, and homework assignments, make up quizzes and tests during ANY type of absence, which includes field trips.
Grades will be based on:
Tests:40% Projects:20%
Classwork:20% Participation:10%
Homework:10%
LATE WORK: 1 day late is 10 points off, 2 days late is another 10 points off, and after the 3rd day the highest the student can get on a the work is a 70.
This year will be a fantastic as we learn about the great cultures of our world!

TheLosFresnosCISDBringyourowndevice(BYOD)initiativeallowsstudentstobringandusetheirownpersonalelectronic devicesatschool.BYODisnotaboutthedevicesthemselves;itisaboutcreatingconstructivechangeinteachingpracticesand empoweringthe studentstomakedecisionsregardinghowthey willlearninclass.Studentsbecomeinformationproducersratherthan informationconsumers.
Classroom Guidelines
LFCISDhaslaunchedtheBringYourOwnDevice(BYOD)initiativetoallowstudentstobringtheirelectronicdevicestoclassfor academicuseunderteachersupervision.StudentswillconnectthedevicestoLFCISD’swirelessnetwork.TheBYODinitiative appliestoallsubjectareasforkindergartenthroughgradetwelve. Outsideoftheclassroom,(beforeschool,lunch,afterschool)studentshavetherighttousedeviceswithoutrestrictionsaslongasthey adheretoappropriateetiquetteandcodeofconduct. Anyotherclassroomuseofelectronicdevicesmustbeapprovedbytheclassroomteacher.
NOTE:StudentsareNOT allowedtousetheirdevicesduringtestadministrations.
Required Acceptable Use
Atthebeginningofeachschool year,studentandstaffshallbegivenacopyoftheDistrict’selectroniccommunicationssystempolicy
tobesignedannuallyagreeingtotherulesofconduct. Whileusingpersonalelectronicdevices,studentsandstaffareexpectedtofollowthesameacceptableusepoliciesforconductand ethicsthatareoutlinedintheLFCISDAcceptableUseofComputersandNetworks.Inaddition,thepolicystatesthatbringing electronicdevicestoschoolisoptional,andeachpersonisresponsibleforhis/herownproperty.Theschooldistrict willnotbeheld accountable forthedevicesduetodamage,loss,ortheft.
Violation/Consequences
StudentsareexpectedtoadheretotheLFCISDStudentCodeofConductincludingtheacceptable-usepolicy.ViolationsofLFCISD’s
policiesconcerningacceptableuseofcomputersandnetworks,codeofconduct,andclassroomproceduresestablishedfortheuseof electronicdevices willresultinthesamedisciplinaryactionsthat wouldresultfromsimilarviolationsinotherareasofLFCISD.The Districtreservestherighttoconfiscateand/orinspectpersonaltechnologydevicesifthereisreasontobelievethatitwasusedto violatepolicies,administrativeproceduresorschoolrules.
Los Fresnos CISD Police Department/Trained Dogs:
The district shall use specially trained non-aggressive dogs to sniff out and alert officials to the current presence of concealed prohibited items, illicit substances defined FNCF (legal), and alcohol. Such visits will be unannounced. The dogs will be used to sniff vacant classrooms, vacant common areas, lockers and the areas around the vehicles parked on school property. (For more information please refer to the Student Handbook)
