COURSE OVERVIEW
Join industry peers for this two-day introductorycourse covering the basics of commercial inland marine,with emphasis on the largest/key inland marine classes of business. The course has been designed for the new hire (trainee); a specialist with ≤ two years experience;or a more experienced P&C individual who has limited expertise in the commercial inland marine class. Topics covered will include -
- The “nuts & bolts” of commercial inland marine - the Nationwide Marine Definition; filed vs. non-filed classes; basics of policy construction; and a brief background of IMUA
- Underwriting Fine Arts – both commercial and personal – at fixed locations; in transit and on exhibition; types of industry forms used; the importance of valuation surveys; and basic underwriting criteria
- Construction or Builders Risk underwriting – types of construction from dwellings to high-rise office towers – understanding the parties to the contract; COPE; understanding forms and coverage; exposure analysis; and extensions of coverage like soft costs and delay in start-up
- TransportationInsurance – legal background; key elements of coverage; underwriting considerations; elements of exposure & severity; importance of financial information; and industry forms and coverages
- Insuring Contractors Equipment – types of equipment covered; types of operations; major underwriting factors; traditional policyterms and conditions found; valuations; deductibles; blanket vs. scheduled; leased vs. rented property; and time element exposure
- Loss Mitigation & Claims Adjusting with a focus on insured management practices that help mitigate losses plus examples of lessons from losses
