Regatta Location
St. Johns University, NY eastern campus was originally the estate of a turn of the century (1900's that is) millionaire. It was converted to a military academy which added a parade ground, dormitories, dining room and indoor swimming pool. The sailing will be on the Great South Bay which runs for 30 miles along the south shore of L.I. It is protected from the Atlantic Ocean by the low-lying barrier reef called Fire Island. This reef protects the launching area from the ocean surf but is low enough to allow the ocean breezes to pass over and give us some of the most exciting racing conditions you will ever experience. Imagine ocean winds without the surf.
