PRESS RELEASE

SENER and the ASCAMM Technology Center sign two new strategic collaboration agreements

  • Both organizations are bolstering their work in the areas of composite materials, cryogenics and medical instrument development.
  • The mixed research unit will represent a joint investment of around €200,000.
  • The engineering firm SENER is building its new corporate building in Parc del Alba, close to the ASCAMM Technology Center.

Cerdanyola del Vallès, February 8, 2013. SENER, a worldwide leader in engineering and technology, and the ASCAMM Technology Center, a member of the TECNIO network, have signed two new strategic collaboration agreements in the areas of cryogenics and acoustics, respectively. These agreements are part of the strategy of the Joint R&D&I Unit created by the two organizations a year ago, the goals of which are implementing research and development projects and developing technology and innovation in various technological and industrial fields.

SENER and ASCAMM's Joint R&D&I Unit is located in the facilities of the Cerdanyola del Vallès Technology Center in Barcelona, Spain, and is made up of a multidisciplinary work group with professionals from both organizations who work together jointly to develop diverse projects and research programs.

As part of this collaboration, a cryogenic facility is being developed that will allow SENER and the ASCAMM Technology Center to conduct research work on materials and develop technologies that require a cryogenic environment, i.e., at temperatures under -200 °C.

In addition to this, the unit is also working on a testing facility for noise insulation levels in order to investigate configurations for acoustic enclosures that are optimized in terms of weight, cost and necessary space.

These two lines of work will represent a joint investment of approximately €200,000, and the results obtained from the tests conducted in the facilities will be applicable in sectors as diverse as aeronautics, space, medical instruments, engineering and construction, and many more.

By establishing the mixed research unit and breaking ground in these two new fields, efforts are being redoubled to reach the goal of working toward the development of a hub of excellence in advanced production with international visibility in the Parc del Alba area.
