Welcome to Housing & Interiors I!
Course Description: Housing and Interior I examines housing and interior decisions that individuals and families make based on their needs, the environment, and technology. Students will investigate such topics as housing options based; design fundamentals, backgrounds and furnishings; architecture styles and design; construction components, home safety and maintenance; and career development. Students also gain information in consumer issues and family needs. Skills in mathematics, technology and art are reinforced in this course.

Unit D: STYLES, CONSTRUCTION , AND DESIGN
Unit E: HOME MANAGEMENT
Unit F: CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Curriculum learning targets: The student will…
○ Interpret individual and family housing needs.
○ Evaluate options and legal aspects of housing.
○ Understand and apply the elements and principles of design and color.
○ Analyze interior background treatments.
○ Recognize and evaluate home furnishings.
○ Understand architectural styles and construction components
○ Understand aspects of a well-designed house.
○ Interpret levels of comfort and safety in home design.
○ Understand and apply home maintenance
○ Recognize career opportunities in interior design and housing.
Required Class Supplies:
● Notebook, paper and pencil every day.
● Graph paper (¼-inch)
● Base and supplies for paper mache house.
Donations of Kleenex and hand soap are always welcome.
Classroom Expectations:
● Treat others, objects(desks, books, equipment) and yourself with respect.
● Always try your best with a positive attitude.
● Be prepared to participate in class discussion or activity (paper, pencil, work and a good attitude).
● Adhere to all rules in the LNHS handbook.
● MacBooks will be stored unless we are utilizing them in class.
● Keep the classroom clean.
Grades and Weights:
90 - 100 - A Tests 35%
80 - 89 - B Projects/Portfolio 25%
70 – 79 - C Homework/classwork 15%
60 – 69 - D Quizzes 25%
Total 100%
Absences: Students are responsible for the material that you have missed in class. You are encouraged to form a partnership with someone in this class to get missing notes/work or email me for the information. You will have 2 days for every unexcused absence to make up the work you missed. If work is not made up in that time, you will receive a zero for all missing work.
Responsibilities: Students should be prepared for, and, participate in classroom activities in a safe and responsible manner. Students should take an active role in their education by being in class and striving to succeed. Students are expected to meet deadlines and make up any missing work.
Make up tests: I am available to students during Smart Lunch A on Monday and B on Thursday for making up or retaking quizzes and tests. If a student fails to make up work, they will receive a zero on the assignment.
