News from the Kell Counseling Office
Freshman Parents Tips For Success:
  • Check student grades on Pinnacle weekly.
  • Contact teachers if you have questions about your students’ classes.
  • Make sure your students are writing their assignments in their agendas daily.
  • Help your students keep their book bags and binders orderly
PSAT - Freshman and Sophomores will take the PSAT on October 12th at Kell. The test is free of charge to them.Juniors who are interested in taking the PSAT must register in the counseling office starting Friday, Sept. 16th. The cost is $15.00. Please make checks payable to Kell High School.
Why should Juniors take the PSAT?
  1. Helps prepare them for the SATs whichwe recommend to begin taking towards the end of Spring semester.
  2. Some of the companies you work for offer scholarships to your students based on their PSAT scores their Junior year.
  3. Juniors are eligible for National Merit scholarships among other scholarships based on their PSAT scores their Junior year.
Parent teacher conference protocol: If you have questions or concerns about your students’ grades, teacher, or class content, please contact your students’ teachers directly. They can be reached via voicemail, but the best form of communication is e-mail. Teachers’ e-mail address formats are .
After communicating with your students’ teachers, if you would like to set a meeting with more than one of them, you may contact your students’ school counselor to schedule the meeting.
Attention Senior Parents:The counselors have been to all Senior English classes to inform Seniors on the college application process. All Seniors were given a Senior Success Strategies handbook, which serves as a manual that will guide them as they complete their college applications. We recommend you review this handbook with your student. Seniors were also given a chart to assist them in organizing information of their colleges of interest as well as a student resume form with which to provide their recommenders.
Upcoming College visits:Seniors will have to sign up in the counseling office and pick up a pass in order to meet with visiting college representatives.

Reflections – “Diversity Means …”
Kell High School will host the 2011-2012 East Cobb County Council Reflections Reception this year, so we want to see LOTS of participation from Kell students. Reflect on this year’s theme – “Diversity Means …”, and then create an original work in Literature, Film Production, Photography, Musical Composition, Visual Arts, or Dance Choreography.
Deadline for submission of entries to Kell is Friday, October 7, 2011 by 4:00pm. For more information, click on Reflections Flyer. You may also download an entry form. Third Annual 5Kell - 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run
Kell High School Swim & Dive Team is sponsoring the 3rd annual 5K and Fun Run. The run will be held at Kell High School on October 1, 2011. There is no deadline for entries; you can even enter on the day of the race.Only pre-registered athletes are guaranteed a t-shirt. Click on 5Kell entry formfor more information and an entry form.
Accident Avoidance Workshops
PTSA will sponsortheAccident Avoidance Workshops at Kell in November. This new, 8-hour, hands-on, one-of-a-kind, parent-participation program teaches your student their own car’s capabilities. We show them what kinds of emergencies can happen, how fast they happen, and what to do when they do happen. Workshops involve a classroom session on Wednesday, November 2nd and a choice of driving sessions on Saturday, November 5th or Sunday, November 6th, 2011 – all at Kell.
