Windows XP IP settings Quick Start Guide for the MTM400

Step One

Hook up a Null (back to back) Lan cable between the Computer and the MTM400. (If the cable is not hooked up when you set the IP address you will have to re-boot the computer for the changes to take effect.) Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) must be installed on the computer. Windows XP does not come with Microsoft Virtual Machine installed on them. The MTM400 will not work without Microsoft Virtual Machine being installed on the computer.

Step Two

Click the Start icon, and then click on My Network Places

Step Three

Click on View Network Connections

Step Four

Right Click on the Local Area Connection Icon, then left click on the Properties Tab. Note: The Local Area Connection Icon Must Say Enabled!

Step Five

Highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option. Then click on Properties

Step Six

Click the Use the Following IP address: radio Button. Enter a fixed IP address for the Computer. (The first 3 sets of numbers must match the address numbers set in the MTM400. The last one must be different from what is set in the MTM400 I.E. one number above. Maximum of 255). After you set the IP address, hit the Tab Key. You should go to the Sub Net Mask Field and it should be filled in with 255.255.255.0. Then, Click OK

Step Seven

Click on the Start Icon, and then click on the Control Panel Icon

Step Eight

Check to see if there is a Java 2 Icon. Ver 1.4 Or Ver 1.5

If The Java Plug-In icon is present, double click to open it. If not present, proceed to step 10

Step Nine

If you have Java Version 1.4 you will see the following screen in Step 9A, if you have Java Version 1.5 you will see the Screen in step 9B.

9A–Java Version 1.4,

Click on the Browser Tab. Make sure that the Microsoft Internet Explorer box is UN Checked. If it is checked Un Check it and then Click Apply

9B – Java Version 1.5,

Click on the Advanced Tab. Expand the <APPLET> Tab . Make sure that the Internet Explorer box is UN Checked. If it is checked Un Check it and then Click Apply

Step Ten

Open a Dos Command Box, go to Start then Click on Run.

Step Eleven

Type ‘CMD’ in the Run Box. Then Type ‘IPCONFIG’ in the Dos Command Box. Verify that the IP address shown is the same as the one you just set.

Note: Make sure that the IP address does not say 0.0.0.0 or Auto Config Address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. If it does, reboot the computer and re-check the IP Address with the IPCONFIG command listed above.

Step Twelve

Now make sure that you can ping the MTM400. Enter Ping followed by the IP address of the MTM400, and Enter in the Dos Command Box. Monitor for a valid Ping reply string. If you do not receive a valid reply to the Ping command, check your IP settings and verify that you have a good cross-over cable.

Step Thirteen

You need to check to see if MS Java is installed on the computer. In a command window type “Jview” If you get a screen like this then MS Java is installed.

Start – Run – Cmd then type “Jview”.

If you get an Error you need to Install MS Java.

Now you are ready to use Internet Explorer to bring up the MTM400. Type in the Internet address assigned to the MTM400 in the Address bar of Internet Explorer.

If all has been done correctly, the MTM400 launch process should begin right away, presenting you with the MTM400 Splash Screen, and then the log-in box. The default Password is “tek”
