PROJECT: Agape international ecumenical centre is a place of encounter where you can live an intense experience of community in beautiful natural surroundings. Agape was and still is an important point of reference in Italian Protestantism, for 50 years a place of education and development, theological exploration, political engagement, of acceptance and validation of differences. Every year many people, with different religious, cultural, political background, and of different age, come to Agape to discuss and to be challenged, to get to know themselves and each other and to exchange experiences around a particular theme. Agape was built after the Second World War as a sign of hope and of reconciliation between people, thanks to the voluntary work of many young men and women; a resident group still lives at Agape throughout the year. The dimensions of community and voluntary service remain central. Please visit: to see which are the activity programmes for this period.

WORK: The work camp will support the activities of AGAPE when a number of guests have meetings on issues of political, social, cultural and religious interest. Volunteers will help in the following areas: kitchen, meal service (tables and dishes), cleaning, maintenance, bar tending, babysitting. Games, discussions and outings can be organized during free time. Programmed activities (especially in the evening) are most of the time open to volunteers, as long as they do not clash with work commitments. The place is beautiful but really isolated, though you will stay together with many international participants to the meetings of AGAPE.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD: Usually the workcampers will be hosted in 3-4 bed bedrooms. Toilets are in common on the floor. The meals are typical Italian Mediterranean and there's a vegetarian alternative for those who require it, as well as for any specific allergies. It is possible to use a washing machine.

ARRIVAL: We require that all volunteers contact the office before arriving especially since travel to Agape can be complicated.

TRAIN TERMINAL: Turin.

PROJECT:The kindergarten “Anzio 4”, that adresses 3-5 yo kids, is starting the pilot project “The School in the Rabbits’ wood”, introducing a learning methodology involving the outdoor education. The fist “school in the wood “ was created in the 1950s in Denmark to increase the pupils’ happiness while learning. The motto is “you will find more in the woods rather than in the books. Trees and rocks will teach you things that no teacher could.” The approach is discover-know-learn, where the experience is the pillar of the learning.

PARTNER: The pilot project involves a large coalition of associations and the Anzio municipality to support the School in this innovative initiative and the international workcamps are important to prepare the settings and to do intercultural activities with the kids.

WORK:The volunteers will work in organizing workshops with the children, and will build a playground (a tree house, a sandpit, a hut). Another important task is the maintenance and cleaning of green areas of the Nature Reserve "Tor Caldara", where the wood is located. The different tasks will be organized in shift. Days: Monday to Friday. Hours: 10.00 to 15.00 h. The three types of work (Work with kids - Renovation -Construction) can be alternated during the day on the basis of an organized calendar with volunteers.

ACCOMMODATION and FOOD:Volunteers will sleep in camp beds inside the school gym. Bathrooms and showers will be available. Sleeping bags are needed. They will have bicycles with which they can move to reach the reserve where they will work, they can also use them for leisure trips. Lunch from Monday to Friday will be organized by the school canteen, while dinner will be prepared by volunteers (a camp kitchen will be in the school) and sometime by the project partners. Vegetarian lunches or celiac recipes can be done, but you will need to know prior to arrival in order to organize.

LOCATION and LEISURE: The reserve is in front of a beautiful beach, where volunteers can go after 15.00 or on weekends. The reserve is very close to Anzio, a pretty seaside town about 55 kilometers south of Rome with a long history to the time of ancient Rome. It is a marina and fishing spot from which you can reach the island of Ponza, and is 2 hours from Naples. Rome can be reached by train within one hour. The group will organize autonomously the free time.
