World History Syllabus:2015-2016

Mrs. Abril, Mr. Monteith,Mr. Wolf, Mr. Gorosave

Course Description

World History is a ten unit, one year course required for high school graduation. The course is based on the California Department of Education Social Studies Framework and Standards, which emphasizes Twentieth Century World History. This course serves a dual purpose for our students; first it teaches the California World History Standards, thus preparing students for the standardized tests in April, and it prepares students to move into the rigorous Advanced Placement courses offered for students in their junior year.

Aeries

In order to improve parent, student, and teacher communication it is suggested that all parents and students have an active Aeries account, which should be checked on a regular basis. This website allows students and parents to check grades, missing assignments, attendance, and download important documents, PowerPoint lectures, etc… for all classes. If you have not activated your Aeries account, you may do so by calling the school at 765-6300.

Attendance:

Regular attendance is a requirement for a good learning environment. Parents and guardians, please try to ensure that your child is attending all of their classes every day. If a student must be absent, please make sure that you have called or written the attendance office to clear the absence.

Students: It is YOUR responsibility to obtain copies of any and all assignments missed due to an absence. You can find this information on the Edlio World History page or look on the appropriate calendar located in your classroom.

Make-Up/Late Work:

It is the sole responsibility of the STUDENT to obtain any work missed due to absences. It is highly recommended that each student find a “study buddy,” or go on Aeries to get work in the case of absence. If the absence is excused students will have two days to turn in make-up work for each day of absence, per district policy. Full credit will only be given on assignments missed due to anexcused absence.

If a student misses a test, they must make arrangements to make up the test after school within two weeks of the original test date. Students cannot make up missed tests for credit beyond two weeks!

Late work or work from an unexcused absence will be marked down by 50%, and students have a maximum of 3 days to turn in the assignment.
