Aim

Togive students an understanding of Ecclesiology and provide a context for the Anglican Church within Christianity.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe a variety of approaches to ecclesiology
  2. Evaluate (Compare and contrast a variety of approaches to ecclesiology)
  3. Locate Anglican ecclesiology within a wider framework

Indicative Content

  • Using Mind Maps as a note taking technique
  • An introduction to first century ecclesiologies as revealed in the New Testament
  • An introduction to second century ecclesiology as revealed in the writings of post New Testament sources
  • Anglican ecclesiology (PowerPoint and Discussion) [Formative Assessments]

Write an evaluation of a ministry setting familiar to you as “Church” using “The Threefold Appeal of Anglican Ecclesiology” to make your assessment.(1500 words)

Notes

Leadership, church organisation, worship, reading of Scripture, content of preaching.

Notes: students may interview the Vicar as preparation for this assignment.

  1. Connects the chosen ministry situation with the appeal to the “UndividedChurch”.
  2. Describes evidence in the ‘Church’ of practices of “Reformation Principles”.
  3. Describes how “Scholarly enquiry” is valued and present in the way this congregation is ordered.
  4. Analyses worship as representative of “Catholic” or “Protestant” values in worship.
  5. Describes the way the ‘Church’ you have chosen expresses its life as part of the Anglican Church in AotearoaNew Zealand and Polynesia.
