CT THORACIC SPINE
INDICATIONS: Trauma, fracture, back pain
PATIENT PREP: None
IV CONTRAST: Perform as directed by the supervising radiologist
With:100 mL Isovue 370 @ 2.0 mL/second
WithOut:None
ORAL CONTRAST: None
POSITIONING: Feet First Supine
TOPOGRAMS: AP. Range: C6 through L1. 35 mA, 120 kV
Lateral. Range: Topogram should include C6 through S1 for counting purposes. 70 mA, 120 kV.
SCAN TYPE: Spiral/Helical
NOTES: ALARA – Keep radiation dose As Low As Reasonably Achievable.
Label vertebra on Sagittals.
Axial/Coronal reconstructions may be done using the best angle for several vertebrae.
May use multiple angles for curves of the spine. Overlap the sections of different angles.
May need curved reformations.
