Leadership Description

The goal of the leadership class is to develop the skills necessary for students to fulfill the duties of their position and to become effective leaders in the future. The course gives students an opportunity to work with their peers, school staff, and community members in order to promote a positive school experience and develop a school community of which we can be proud.

TheASB Mission Statement

The Leadership Officers’ Mission is to plan events and publicize activities that promote inclusion and school spirit. The ASB officers will inspire and serve fellow students while being true to SRVHS values.

Goals

The ASB officers strive to:

Build an environment based on the principals of best effort, shared responsibility and mutual success.

Communicate useful information in a consice and timely manner within the Leadership program

Encourage the SRV student body, and staff to get involved and stay involved.

Appreciate the privileges and resources that you are given.

Work to promote all leadership activities and school events to entire student body

Be well-organized, efficient, enthusiastic and go above and beyond on all projects

Connect with our community

The Weekly Schedule

The following is the weekly schedule that we will follow on non-major activity weeks.

Monday:complete weeks past log, update and review the white board with upcoming events, and committee meetings. ASB will meet on Mondays at lunch

Tuesday: Student Council Meetings (includes teaching lessons)

Wednesday:Class officer meetings and work time; IMPACT at SV (biweekly)

Thursday:Work time/Special Events; IMPACT at CW (biweekly)

Friday: Work time or major events/activities

Announcements

Every day we will begin with Walls of Loveand then all announcements will be brief.

Committee Meetings

Brief ten minute meetings, which consist of: reviewing committee needs, delegating responsibilities and planning upcoming activities. Committee directors are responsible for making agendas as well as class officer presidents. ASB officers will stop by meetings and present agendas at ASB meetings.

Voluntary Leadership Donations

There are some costs for the leadership class. The cost will be used for inschool class socials, class supplies,leadership luncheons, class social, your leadership t-shirt, and lanyard. The fleece and sweatshirt are optional items. Below is a breakdown of the costs. Make checks payable to SRVHS. If there are any financial hardships please talk to Mrs. Willford.

The Classroom Environment

In order to maintain a comfortable, productive, and enjoyable atmosphere in the classroom, we expect the following from students’ everyday:

Be Prompt:Leadership responsibilities include setting an example. Class attendance and being on time is significant for our success. Therefore, you are expected to be in class every day, on time everyday. If you are tardy or absent the below policy will be applied.

Tardy Policy:

First tardy: your only freebie

Second and consecutive tardies: deduction of job points each week.

Absences:

Attendance will be taken at the beginning and at the end of every period. If you do not report back, it will be a cut. All students MUST sign out with their ASB officer before leaving on leadership business.

First seven cleared absences: freebies

Eighth and consecutive absences: deduction of points fromappointed/elected grade

Cutting Class:

We will strictly follow the school policy for cuts. Each cut will result in the loss of job points. More than three absences due to cuts and you will be dropped from the class.If you do not sign out properly, or you are not signed out properly and you are not doing leadership business you will receive a cut.

Food and Drinks Policy

We recognize that sometimes leadership asks students to miss their lunch period. Because of this issue, we will allow leadership students to eat in the classroom; however eating may not occur during the first 15 minutes of class,Student council meetings, teaching lessons,and class officer/committee meetings.

Cell Phone

We recognize that sometimes leadershipstudents are asked to use their phone for leadership business. However all phones should not be out unless working on a leadership project. No cell phone use at all during announcements.

" District policy states that harassment in or out of the classroom is not to be tolerated. Harassment based on race, ethnicity, able-bodiedness, sexuality, perceived sexuality, gender, gender expression, monetary standing, religion or faith-base, or any other factor will be reported to the administration and dealt with accordingly. This includes slang such as “that’s so gay” or “that’s retarded.” Both are considered hate speech."

Grading Policies

Leadership is a semester class with interim grades at progress reports and quarter. Grades will be posted every three weeks. The overall grade is based on a point system. The grade will be broken down as follows:

10% Secret Staff Pal Cards

You will be assigned 5 Staff pal cards/assignments per semester. Each one must be check off with your ASB officer the day it is due in order to receive an A grade. If the card or assignment is late points will be docked.

50% Activity participation (50 hours/50 points)

During the semester you need to work obtain fifty activity points. Hours are earned for leadership work done OUTSIDE of the class not relating to your specific job. Class work and officer/committee work does not constitute for activity participation. Among the 50 hours there is a break down for each category:

  • Dress-Up hours (up to 6 dress up hours (12 dress ups)/each dress up counts as 30 minutes)
  • Fine Arts/Sporting Events (up to 3 fine arts and up to 4 sporting events will also count toward 7leadership hours.)
  • Homecoming float (a two hour mandatory hour event-8 hour maximum) (Can not be substituted) these hours must be completed within the first week and half of float building. You can not use the last day for the first two hours of time.
  • 1 Kiosk hour must be earned by working one lunch during the semester. You may work extra hours in the Kiosk for other activity hours. , Each lunch is worth one point/hour.
  • All other points/hours are earned through activity hours. Examples of these OUTSIDE hours are:
  • After school stadium
  • Fundraisers/selling Kiosk items at games
  • Working tailgates/6th Man or 12the Man events,
  • During school in class events: blood drives, elections, staff luncheons, clean up for events
  • Wolf pack days (6 hour maximum)
  • Mt. Diablo (2 hour maximum)
  • Mr. GQ
  • 1 hour for on time birthday snacks.
  • Up to 5 hours can be earned for supplying food or drinks for events.
  • All of the hour opportunities will be explained and discussed every Monday.
  • 2 Community Service Hours: CST will keep an ongoing board about ways to contribute to our community. Pick one, or find another way to help the community, and serve two hours per semester. Remember Peres is an excellent choice!

40% Appointed/Elected Position

Each of you were either elected or appointed to fulfill a required job description. It is important that you fulfill each of your required job tasks. Every two weeks you will receive a grade out of 10 on your performance. You will receive about 9 total grades. Organization, creativity and hard work are the key elements to completing your work with accuracy. Every week you will fill out your own personal time log to indicate how much time you are dedicating to your job. Attendance and tardies, and work ethic will be monitored and will help to base your grade.

Virtually all problems can be prevented or resolved through prompt and honest communication. It is essential for your success in this class that you communicate with the ASB and the advisors immediately if any concern arises about this class. We are available to meet with you before and after school, or during lunch. Please contact us should the need arise.
