POST TITLE:Fitness Class Instructor DATE AGREED: April 2013

RESPONSIBLE TO: Fitness Supervisors / Facility Manager / Assistant Operations Managers.

DETAILS OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL:

Responsible to the Fitness Supervisor / Facility Manager / AOM’s for the provision of the day to day supervision, operation and control of all fitness based class activities. Provide high quality instruction in the delivery of a wide range of fitness class activities.

SPECIFICALLY:

1To ensure that all necessary qualifications for the post are maintained and renewed. Fitness industry qualifications are pre-requisite to the post.

2To pursue ones own personal development in ensuring training needs are updated in line with the latest fitness industry trends.

3To supervise all activities and operate all class based equipment in a manner consistent with safe working practice.

4Participate in designated staff training sessions as deemed appropriate by the Fitness Centre Management Team.

5Provide each customer with exceptional service beyond their expectations. Be part of a team that consistently delivers service that is unique and better than our competitors.

6To maintain a working knowledge of all fitness related matters, so as to provide professional advice on relevant subjects.

7To ensure all customers, who are new to fitness, are informed of the class structures, levels and intensities.

8Take full responsibility for the set up and de-rig of all equipment to include secure storage after each programmed session.

9To undertake basic maintenance of class related equipment and bring to the attention of the Facility Manager / AOM / Fitness Supervisors any faults of major repairs.

And any other duties commensurate with the grade and falling within the scope of the post, as requested by Management.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

POST TITLE: Fitness Class Instructor

Criteria Essential Desirable
Experience/ Education / Experience of dealing with the public face to face.
Knowledge of safe working practices associated with set up and delivery of fitness classes.
Fitness Instructors qualification, YMCA Certificate, RSA or equivalent.
Previous fitness class experience.
First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
Knowledge or interest in fitness and healthy lifestyles.
Willing to undertake continuous training / 






Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities

/ Self motivated, enthusiastic, flexible.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Tactful and sensitive with good communication skills to deal with the public.
Capable of delivering a quality service with minimum supervision.
General concept of health and safety and safe working practices. / 




Other

Requirements

Information to Candidates on Employment Terms and Conditions

The following details outlining some of the main Terms and Conditions of Employment are for information only. They do not constitute a contractual agreement. A full Contract of Employment will be issued to the successful applicant on appointment.

1.Working Hours

There are various casual hours available for various disciplines, hours are to be worked to suit the needs of the service which may include mornings, evenings and weekends.

2.HolidaysThere are 24 days annual leave from 1 April to 31 March each year plus 8 Bank Holidays (pro rata for part-time staff). Staff appointed part way through a holiday year will receive a proportionate entitlement.

3.Salary

The rate of pay will be £12.23 per hour.

4. Pension

Staff will be eligible to join Nottinghamshire Local Government Pension

Scheme.

  1. Probationary Period

All new appointments are subject to a probationary period of 20 weeks during which time suitability for the position appointed will be assessed.

5.Notice Period

The notice period that will operate on both sides to terminate the Contract will be one week or, on the employer side, one week for every year of service (to a maximum of 12 weeks) if this is greater.

6.Appointment

Appointments made are subject to receipt of satisfactory health clearance and two references.
