Pastoral Profile/Job Description
First Baptist Church, Emery, South Dakota is seeking a full time senior pastor who will serve as our spiritual leader, guiding our people in fulfilling our mission of Glorifying God by Making Disciples. We currently have 172 active members. First Baptist Church offers Sunday School for all ages with an average attendance of 107. Average Sunday morning worship attendance is 156 and our Wednesday evening programs (AWANA, HS Youth and Prayer Meeting) average 170 attendees and workers.
Essential Requirements:
We at First Baptist Church feel it is of utmost importance to have a leader that first and foremost relies on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and presents Biblically based messages while having the exemplary character requirements based on Titus 1:6-8.
Communicates God’s Word practically and verbally in a clear and relevant manner of preaching and teaching that demonstrates his reliance on the Holy Spirit and his conviction that God’s Word is powerful and useful. (1 Corinthians 2:12-14, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Holds a passion to preach the gospel in an effort to reach the unsaved in the church and surrounding communities. (2 Timothy 4:1-2, Ephesians 6:19)
Leads the church in an example of Godly character by reflecting dignity and moral purity. (1 Peter 5:2-3, 1 Timothy 4:12)
Provides visionary leadership to ensure a bright future for First Baptist Church in its mission of glorifying God by making disciples. (Acts 15:36, 16:6-10, Jeremiah 29:11)
As a church, we are seeking a shepherd-oriented leader that will convey God’s Word and exhibit a Christ-like example of knowing his flock intimately and demonstrate a desire to be a student of the congregation and community in order to meet their needs. (2 Timothy 4:1-2, Ephesians 4:11-13, John 10:14, Acts 20:28)
Provides pastoral care and servant leadership to those in need and willingness to advise the congregation and others in the community. (Ezekiel 34:1-10)
Develops and sustains authentic relationships of all ages both within the church and in the community. (Luke 2:52, John 10:14)
Listens to the congregation’s needs and advises them with Biblical principles.

Commits to the ministry of prayer and intercession. (Philippians 4:6, Ephesians 6:18)
Job Description/Responsibilities:
Preach and/or teach in both the Sunday morning and Sunday evening services, as well as lead the Wednesday night Bible study or prayer meeting.
Work with the worship teams in preparing appropriate worship services.
Lead the congregation in the Lord’s Supper the first Sunday bi-monthly. He should also lead in regard to baptisms.
Available and willing to perform weddings and funerals as needed.
Provide guidance to the congregation in regards to Bible studies, discipleships, or other small groups.
Guide the associate pastor with the authority of the deacons.
Support and maintain contact with all supported church missionaries and missions, both home and abroad.
Participate in and provide guidance in the Christian education of all ages.
Provide short-term counseling as needed through the most effective means possible.
Available and responsive to crisis situations by providing pastoral care.
Serve as an ex-officio member of all the church’s boards/committees as stated in the First Baptist Church constitution.
Accountable to the deacons as laid out in the First Baptist Church constitution.
Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree, required, Master of Divinity, preferred.
Adhere to the statement of beliefs of the North American Baptist Conference and willing to sign the NAB Pastoral Code of Ethics.
Actively support/cooperate with the North American Baptist Conference, as well as the Central Plains Region Association and keeps the congregation informed of meetings and activities.
Shall be an ordained minister of a Baptist denomination or eligible for ordination, whose spiritual qualifications conform to 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
