The largest public health authority in Scandinavia selects LABVANTAGE Medical Suite - Software Point to deliver an extensive hospital laboratory information system to Oslo Region in Southern Norway
Software Point, a company specializing in laboratory information systems, announced a contract with HelseSør-Øst (HSØ), the regional public health authority of South-East Norway, for the delivery of a new region-wide hospital laboratory information system (LIS). LABVANTAGE C5, a product developed by Software Point, was selected in an international public procurement to become the enterprise-wide LIS for the entire Oslo region. With estimated value of 15 million Euros (20 M USD), it is the largest LIS delivery to have taken place in Nordic countries.
“The project is groundbreaking and wide reaching for HSØ”, said SteinarMarthinsen, Executive Vice President of HSØ. “Not only will all laboratory systems be replaced but the goal is to even harmonize all working processes throughout the region. Here, the standardization plays an important role. LABVANTAGEMedical Suitewill enable us to harmonize our cross-disciplinary processes throughout the whole enterprise.”
Software Point will replace 18 of HSØ’s legacy laboratory systems. The delivery will include one centralized system that supports clinical chemistry, microbiology, pathology and blood banking. System will be deployed in phases throughout HSØ’s 10 regional organizations and when fully deployed in 2017, the system will have 1400 concurrent users, manage 50 million analyses annually and serve more than half of the entire population of Norway.
“HSØ choosing Software Point did not come as a total surprise for us”, said Andrea Holmberg, CEO of Software Point. “Customer’s requirement of a web-based, centralized LIS to cover the whole South-East region of Norway - and all laboratory disciplines within - is something that only a few LIS vendors can respond to. Software Point has already proven itself in the market of enterprise LIS deliveries in the Nordic region by winning the majority of all procurements during the recent years. The previous significant deal was closed in August 2012, when the Swedish Region Skåne chose Software Point to deliver a system quite similar to HSØ.”
“Yet the HSØ deal is really special – it’s sheer size and scope makes it by far the largest LIS delivery in Nordic countries, if not in the whole Europe. As the system is being delivered during the course of the coming years, everything has to go according to the plans – It is important to understand that the system will have a major role providing proper health care for all of the 2,6 Million inhabitants of the HSØ region.” , commented Holmberg.
“Software Point, throughout its 20 years in business, has always focused on laboratory information systems”, said Holmberg. “Our core competence and focus has previously been within Industrial laboratories. Back in 2005 we concluded that the healthcare LIS market was lacking innovation and competition and it led to our decision to invest in development of a whole new healthcare LIS. It was a major undertaking but the recent triumphs have shown that we made the right decision – Software Point now has one of the most competitive, workflow based laboratory information systems in the healthcare LIS market.”
