TROOP 30 – SCRIBE INFORMATION
Scribe Job Description:
The Scribe keeps the Troop’s records. He records the activities of the Patrol Leaders' Council and keeps a record of Scout attendance at troop meetings and activities. To be a good Scribe you need to attend nearly all Troop and Patrol Leaders' Council meetings.
When you accept the position of Scribe at Troop 30, you agree to provide service in your Troop. This responsibility should be fun and rewarding. This job description and the duties listed below provide some of the things you are expected to do while serving as a junior leader.
Scribe Duties:
Actively participate in the Patrol Leaders' Council meetings and assist other Patrol Leaders in theirplanning.
Regularly attend (75%) all Troop meeting, outings and activities. If your attendance is low, or if you have three (3) unexcused absences in a row, you can be removed from office. If the Scribe must miss a meetingor activity, he should seek to ensure that another Scout will attend in his place and has been instructed on theScribe’s duties and requirements.
Report and file Troop attendanceafter each meeting or activity.
Works with the troop committee member(s) responsible for records and finance.
If asked to take notes, the Scribe should write up and distributethe PLC meeting minutes to the PLC members, Scoutmaster, and other adultleaders before the next PLC meeting.
Sets a good example.
Enthusiastically wears the Scout uniform correctly.
Lives by the Scout Oath and Law.
Shows Scout Spirit.
General Information:
- Responsible to: Senior Patrol Leader
- Term of office: 6 months
- Position type: Appointed (by SPL, but must be approved by the Scoutmaster)
- Works with: Assistant Scoutmaster responsible for TroopScribe
- JLT Training: Yes
- Effort: You are expected to give this job your best effort and use the adult leadership and advice when you feel they are needed.
- Expectations: If not satisfactorily performing his duties (as determined by Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters) due to poor attendance or lack of attention to responsibilities can lose his position and not receive credit for a "position of responsibility."
- Experience: none, but interest in photography and computers is helpful.
- Requirements: Minimum Class Scout; 1 year in the Troop.

I understand that failure to honor this commitment during my term of office may result in the loss of my leadership position and/or the loss of leadership credit toward my rank advancement.
