BILT gets TERI Corporate Social Repsonsibility Award

New Delhi, May 28, 2005: BILT has achieved the honour of getting this year’s prestigious TERI National Award for Corporate Social Responsibility. The awards were presented by Mr Kamal Nath, Hon’ble Union Minister for Commerce and Industry. This year’s awards were in two categories – Environment Excellence and Corporate Social Responsibility and were selected from among 178 entries by an eminent jury chaired by Justice J S Verma, Former Chief Justice of India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gautam Thapar, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, BILT said, “This award for BILT is not just a recognition of the work that we have done in the past, but also acknowledges that whatever we have done is in the right direction and that it has impacted the participating public in the best possible way. I am proud to say that we are committed to intensifying our efforts towards this”.

BILT has a robust CSR strategy that is primarily implemented through a dual model: site specific and a larger, national level corporate initiative. BILT has five manufacturing locations in some of the most underdeveloped areas of the country in which it works extensively with the communities on a broad range of issues ranging from health, education, income generation, skill training for enhanced livelihood and strengthening the village panchayat system through training of members on issues relating to governance, development, fund management, etc.

One of the important platforms that BILT uses to implement its programs along with its partner NGOs is the Self Help Groups (SHGs) that are formed at the village level. To date, BILT has facilitated 200 such women’s SHGs and a similar number of youth and farmer groups in around 100 villages across its various locations. Together, the BILT CSR program has impacted close to 1,50,000 marginalised people.
