Brief Explanation (This will be copied into the description in the Change Control Summary Spreadsheet):

In several schemas, the addressing fields include a field called ‘Country Code’. However, to date, the Standards Group has not determined a common set of Codes to be used to populate this field. The field is currently Optional.

Proposed Resolution:

1)  It is proposed that we adopt a currently recognized and universal set already used by industries such as the ISO standard or the Post Office standard.

2)  That the field remains optional in the schema however is defined as conditional in business rule logic. Conditional based on whether the address is within Canada or not.

Ontario EBT Discussion and Resolution:

April 2-2004:

Where addressing fields are presented on any EBTs, the following rules are to be followed;

1)  The valid values to be used to populate the “Province” field and for the “Country Code” field are to follow the Province, State and Country Code standard abbreviations used by Canada Post.

2)  The “Province” field is a mandatory field and must be populated correctly for addresses in Canada or the U.S. Where the address being provided is in a Country other than Canada or the U.S., the distributor will populate the field with a valid default prov/state code of their choice.

3)  The “Country Code” field is an optional field on the schema. However, the business rule is conditional. The field must be populated in the case where the address resides in a Country that is not Canada. Where the country is Canada, population of the field is optional. Therefore, where the field is left unpopulated, the country of the address must be Canada.
