Text: Romans 12: 1, 2 -

------Introduction: This passage talks about our bodies being a living sacrifice. In essence, what he is talking about is surrendering our lives totally to God. The biggest problem for most Christians is living a life of surrender. They want to half way serve God and half way live for God.

They are never happy and they wonder what is wrong. A “Surrendered Life” is where you take your hand off your life and let God completely control your life and direct your life.

This passage will deal with that. The passage will help us to see the importance of a surrendered life and tell us how to go about it.

I. The Surrendered Life Is a Life of Surrender

  1. We See The Strong Request

V.1 – I beseech you therefore brethren, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice-

By using the word beseech reveals that this is a strong petition. Paul was begging because of the importance.

We see that he requested that they> present their bodies a living sacrifice.

The word present means voluntarily. We are to voluntarily present our bodies a living sacrifice.

He wants our bodies; this includes all of us, and doesn’t exclude any part of our life

God wants all of us, at all times.

We See the Strong Request

  1. We See The Standard Revealed

V.1 – 2nd phrase- present your bodies a living sacrifice, Holy –

He wants us to live Holy lives! Our bodies are to be presented as a Holy Sacrifice.

2 Corinthians 7: 1 –Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Fearing God will help us to perfect holiness in our lives and cleane ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit.

1 Thessalonians 4: 7 – For God hath not called us to un-cleanness, but unto holiness.

1 Peter 1: 15 – But he which hath called you is Holy, so ye ought to be holy in all manner of life.

V.1 – 2nd phrase -that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God-

The Lord will not accept any less.

The Lord doesn’t want our 2nd best or 3rd best, he wants the best that we can offer…….or he will not accept our life that we offer him.

  1. We See The Spiritual Reasoning

V. 1 – Last phrase- that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

God says that it is only> reasonable that we should present our bodies a living Holy sacrifice-

A sensual (carnal Christian) may say that God is not reasonable for asking us to live this kind of life style.

However, God is being reasonable. How can we expect a Holy God to expect any less of us because we are capable of living by his Holy Standards?

We have His precepts to tell us how

……, and we have His power to help us live a holy life.

We See the Strong Request

We See the Standard Revealed

We See the Spiritual Reasoning

  1. We See The Special Reason

V. 1 – I beseech you therefore-

The word therefore is used to tell us what the there is for. It goes back to the preceding chapters that tell us what He has done for us! The previous chapters tell us what he went through in order for us to be saved.

V. 1 – I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God-

If God had not been merciful, we would have all died and went to hell in our lost condition.

He withheld what we deserved, but gave us what we didn’t deserve.

He gave us salvation because He became our substitute sacrifice for us on Calvary!

The Surrendered Life Is a Life of Sacrifice

II. The Surrendered Life Is a Life of Separation

  1. The Danger That Effects Out Duty Of Living

A Separated Life

V. 2 – And be not conformed to this world-

Notice the word conformed. Instead of conform-ing the world, a lot of Christians are conformed by the world.

Instead of trying to make a change in this Godless world, some Christians are letting this Godless world change them!

Listen to 1 John 2: 15 – Love not the world, neither the things in the world.

James 4: 4 – Whosoever therefore will be a friend of this world is the enemy of God.

  1. The Discernment That Effects Our Duty Of Living

A Separated Life

V. 2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind-

What you think is what you become. If you think like the world, you will be worldly minded, if you think like Christ by living by the principles of His word, you will be a Christ-like Christian.

John 17: 15 – I pray not that you shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16- They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 –Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The Surrendered Life Is a Life of Sacrifice

The Surrendered Life Is a Life of Separation – from the word

III. The Surrendered Life Is a Life of Satisfaction

Only a person living in God’s will- will be satisfied.

  1. The Description Of God’s Will

V. 2 –And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

God’s will is always good!

Genesis 50: 20 – Joseph said, but God meant it unto Good.

Romans 8: 28 – And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Joseph’s life was a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God.

V. 2 – Last phrase- that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

If our life is lived in the will of God and we have lived a surrendered life, God will accept that life style and we will be able to accept what comes our way in this walk of Life.

V. 2 – Last phrase- that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

If we have lived that good, acceptable life, whatever may come our way in this walk of life, it will be the perfect will of God.

There will never be any flaws in God’s will! God always knows what he is doing! We may not always comprehend God’s will in this walk of life, but His will is always perfect.

The Description of God’s Will

  1. The Demonstration Of God’s Will

V. 2 – Last phrase- that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The word PROVE could be translated DEMONSTRATE.

When our bodies are a living sacrifice, or we are living a surrendered life, we demonstrate that we are living in the will of God.

If we reverse these principles, living out of God’s will – >will not lead to a life of satisfaction, but a life of misery for a true child of God!

Conclusion: “The Life of Surrender”

If you want to live a life of satisfaction, you will have to live a surrendered life.

If you are a Christian and your life is not surrendered, you will never be happy in this walk of life.

Satisfaction comes from surrender, or allowing our bodies to be a living sacrifice.

Our Lord and Savior became our sacrifice on Calvary by dying. He is not asking us to die, but to allow our bodies to be a living sacrifice or live a surrendered life.

Question: Are you proving or demonstration that your body is a living sacrifice or you are living a surrendered life? If not, according to our text, you are living a life out of God’s will.
