Newton’s Laws of Motion Video Project (70 Points)
Description: You will be creating a video using iMovie that demonstrates Newton’s 3 laws of motion. Following is a description of the 3 laws. You will have to introduce each of the laws in the video using text or your voice. Make sure that each of the 3 laws is clearly stated, clearly demonstrated and an explanation is given! You will be graded with the following rubric:
- Storyboard Sheet: (4 Points)
- Newton’s law 1: (12 Points)
o Clearly Stated (Verbally or Text) (4 points)
o Law is shown with a relevant demonstration (4 points)
o Demonstration is explained on how it SPECIFICALLY relates to the law (Verbally or Text) (4pts)
- Newton’s law 2: (12 Points)
o Clearly Stated (Verbally or Text) ) (4 points)
o Law is shown with a relevant demonstration (4 points)
o Demonstration is explained on how it SPECIFICALLY relates to the law (Verbally or Text) (4pts)
- Newton’s law 3: (12 Points)
o Clearly Stated (Verbally or Text) ) (4 points)
o Law is shown with a relevant demonstration (4 points)
o Demonstration is explained on how it SPECIFICALLY relates to the law (Verbally or Text) (4pts)
- Creativity and Organization of Video (20 Points)
o Quality video (all rough video edited out!) and smooth transitions (5 points)
o Video organized in an effective manner (5 points)
o Overall creativity and effort (10 points)
- Participation (10 points)
Overall Tips for making an iMovie while still getting all the points!!!:
· Don’t be the group that spends hours and hours on their video but still gets a poor grade because you don’t read the rubric!!! I can’t stress this enough.
· Think creatively, this will always win you points.
· Your project should flow in this fashion:
1. Develop a storyboard, so you know exactly what you are doing going into your project! This step is commonly done inadequately and results in a lot of trouble for teams down the road.
2. Get all of the raw video in one day. Turn the camera on/off between scenes. This makes it easier to find video clips while editing. It is not fun searching a 7 minute clip for a 10 sec scene. By developing your story board you should know exactly what it is you need to do when you start filming.
3. Get all of your video in order, with transitions done, BEFORE doing any of the fine tuning! Many groups will try to micromanage their project throughout and then they don’t have time to finish.
4. Make sure you use your time wisely. One thing you do know is that you will have your computer in class, but you might have to share a computer after school due to limited resources. We will have a sign out for computers for this project.
Newton’s Laws
Law 1: Law of Inertia
- An object in motion will remain in motion unless acted on by a force
- An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by a force
Law 2: Force = Mass x Acceleration or A = F/M
- A greater force will result in greater acceleration
- A greater mass will result in less acceleration
Law 3: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
- When a force is exerted on an object, the object exerts a force back
