The Department
The Centre for Women’s Global Health was created on 1 January 2017 from an amalgamation of three distinct areas of work: Global Health Unit, Leading Safe Choices Programme and Development Department. The Centre will develop its full remit and activities over 2017 to help fulfil the College’s aim to improve women’s healthcare on a global stage.
Purpose
This role is to mainly support the work of the Centre for Women’s Global Health through developing a Trust and Grants strategy and creating a programme to meet our agreed funding goals. The role of Trust and Grant Funding Manager will be a crucial element in developing this strategic approach to meeting our funding aspirations. The Manager will help us to deliver outstanding supporter experience and long term growth for the Centre.
The Manager will be managing complex, high profile partnerships, including multi- country projects. They will develop proposals and reports alongside colleagues and RCOG Fellows and Members.
The role is based on an understanding of the programmes of work, researching potential donors, establishing strong relationships with donors and funders, applying for funding and achieving the objective of bringing in new streams of income into the College for both global and UK projects.
The Manager will be responsible for developing the, through the use of data analysis, research, maintaining of accurate records, developing funding applications and delivery of high standards of donor care. This will lead to more funding from these sources into the UK and Global work of the College in supporting women’s healthcare.
The Manager will manage the Development Assistant in supporting Fellows, Members and Trainees to support the philanthropic work of the College and will need to work closely with other departments to understand their needs and shape projects to make them attractive to funders to enable us to secure funding to support these initiatives.
Main duties
- Take responsibility for developing and implementing a strategy to engage with new Trust and Grant funders
- Undertake research to identify potential donors/funders including grant makers and trusts through internet searching and use of research tools
- Develop clear, compelling and comprehensive proposals and approaches to grant makers and trusts, according to their funding remit, deadlines and requirements
- Work with members of the Centre team, Officers and other internal stakeholders to develop proposals and projects for funding, including developing budgets
- Identify new opportunities for the Centre both in the UK and globally
- Manage the Development Assistant in her role to support fundraising from Fellows and Members
- Design, develop and maintain a Funding Portfolio which details costs and details of activities and progress in funding. Become the main point of contact for all staff requesting information about funding proposals on the Funding Portfolio.
- Manage the Development Assistant to maintain the fundraising database including continuing its development to ensure it meets the needs of the department, which will include the development of appropriate, timely reports
- Become the main account holder for specific, named donors/funders. Be responsible for collating and writing reports and ensure all reporting meets donor requirements to include collating impact measures, working with internal staff to gather data and collating information
- With support and direction from the Director, take a lead role in finalising the design for the College’s Case for Support, helping to ensure that it remains current and relevant to the strategic direction of the College, obtaining buy in from stakeholders
- Alongside the Director, promote a fundraising culture across the College, including making the Officers, Council, Trustees, staff and members aware of, and involved with, the planned fundraising activities
- Represent the RCOG and the Centre for Women’s Global Health when required.
- Take responsibility for meeting a fundraising target for trust applications
- Support the Director by helping to grow relationships with donors by contributing to developing long term plans
- Ensure that existing and new relationships with donors are maintained appropriately by working with the Director to ensure all supporters’ specific needs are met.
- Manage the Assistant to ensure that all systems are maintained and developed to ensure that all donors are correctly managed, correspondence with donors is timetabled and recorded, payment schedules and reporting deadlines are adhered to
- Work with the Assistant and members of the Finance Team to regularly reconcile the fundraising database with Exchequer
- Through the Assistant ensure that the fundraising website pages are updated on funding projects
- Be familiar with the work of RCOG so as to communicate the work to enquirers and donors.
- Support the Director with events and other fundraising activities, as and when required which will include attendance at certain events

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education requirements
Essential criteria / Desirable criteria- Graduate with minimum 5 years of experience in developing funding applications
- Graduate in Public Health or International Health
Experience
Essential criteria / Desirable criteria- Experience in developing proposals for bilateral, multilateral donors, trusts orfoundations including clients such as The Health Foundation, DFID, EU, World Bank and USAID; including on large projects (>£1m)
- Experience of writing both successful applications and high quality reports
- Experience is preparing budgets for donor proposals particularlyunderstanding of budgeting and financial requirements and reportingprocesses; and good skills in spreadsheet/budget preparation.
- Experience in health proposal development in an internationaldevelopment context
- Experience in other areas of fundraising such as challenge events or major donors
