1.Instructional Purpose:

In this story Juan Felipe Herrera tells about his family life as migrant farm workers.

3.What will you model that will help students negotiate the difficult parts?
1.I will use ‘Get Unstuck’ card (Which will require them to write what they don’t
understand, why they’re stuck, to get unstuck what they’ll try and after they understand
they use the word in sentence or draw a picture and write a caption) to write difficult
words. I will demonstrate with couple words, using the dictionary.
2. For Spanish words, meanings are already given in the text. I’ll have the Spanish-
speaking students pair up with non-Spanish speaking students and have them help to
pronounce the Spanish words and discuss the meanings among them selves.
3. Foe verb Tense, I will select the sentences from the text, write them on the board and
read them aloud. Then explain how the present perfect tense is formed and with help of
a chart demonstrate how to form a present perfect form. I will do the same for past
perfect tense.
4. What do they need to do with the information they are reading?
1. Have students interview someone about his/her memories of growing up and going to
school. Have them share their findings in the class and have them compare and contrast
the memories with those of Juanito.
2. Have them write a personal narrative about an experience they had as a younger child.
It might be about moving to a new city or country. Have them mail or e-mail it to a
friend.

2. Use sticky notes to write summery and then share it with other students
