Grade Level Junior High School Principal
(Grades Seven and Eight)
Job Description
The Principal is responsible for managing the operations of the school to continuously meet its goals and objectives. On a daily basis, principals must perform a variety of tasks, including overseeing staff performance, supervising student behavior and ensuring that the academic programs are thriving. The Junior High Principal will provide leadership to the overall Junior High School program (7th and 8th Grades) while working collaboratively with the Columbia Central High School Principal. The Junior High School Principal will assist the Building Principal in all aspects of the Jr/Sr High School. This leader will provide direction in order to ensure academic achievement and social growth for all students.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in teaching/curriculum/ or educational leadership preferred.
Current teaching certificate and possess or working towards an administrative certificate.
Excellent written and communication skills.
Knowledge of or experience with 7-12 grade curriculum, data analysis, performance assessment and school improvement planning preferred.
Experience in advancing student achievement preferred.
Willingness to begin position in April of 2015.
Performance Responsibilities
- Assists the building principal with the overall leadership of Columbia Central Jr/Sr High School which will include but not be limited to observations and evaluations of staff and supervision and management of students.
- Provide opportunity and leadership for those working with him/her to share techniques and ideas for bettering the overall school program.
- Administer and assist.
- Supervise and assist in developing effective professional development during building professional development and department chair meetings.
- Collaborate with Columbia Administrative Team and Columbia Jr/Sr High School Staff.
- Assist the Athletic Director with supervision and planning of Junior High School athletic events.
Specific Duties
- Supervise extra-curricular activities.
- Supervise all personnel in Junior High School Building.
- Handle disciplinary problems.
- Make necessary reports to the state for the Junior High School Building.
- Attend all Board of Education meetings.
- Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and attend school sponsored activities.
- Be an ambassador for the district at work and in the community.
- Obey and enforce all State and school district policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Coordinate school and community outreach programs.
- Develop and maintain a school culture and discipline program.
- Maintain and lead the school wide Nurtured Heart Program.
- Lunchroom supervision.
- All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Terms of Employment
Forty four week contract renewed yearly as approved by the Superintendent and Columbia School District Board of Education.
Salary and other employment conditions to be established by the Superintendent and Columbia School District Board of Education.
