Flag Notes Labor Day Weekend 2017 LPOYC
Flag Notes
Spring has sprung, summer’s fell, fall is here and hopefully it’ll be wind’ier‘ n heck for the fall series races. That’s right, fall series has begun and will continue through the end of the month. Fall series is known as the “Growler” series, not because of the shouts on the water, but because there will be several of those large jugs consumed at the end the series.
As a bonus, there will be some days where we will “go fer 2” so we can get the required number of races in. First race was just before Spud Cup and the winners were: Mike Gridley (Raven), Kevin Haley (More Fun) and Kevin Farrington (Epee). This week Skipper’s meeting will be at MacDonalds at 9 AM on Sunday, the 10th.
Speaking of this weekend, it’s that time again …MacDonald’s Annual Anniversary Party…this year it will be 66 years in the same location…and lots of entertainment is planned. I have attached the poster at the end of the Flag Notes for everyone’s information.
Speaking of parties, Bitter End Marina is hosting their annual end of season party- Come celebrate another great season of sailingat the

On a sad note, Michelle Wilmot has notified us that her aunt, Judy Rish, a longtime member of the club, passed away from cancer in late August. As many club members will remember, Judy and her partner, Sharon McMullen, spend many years sailing their yellow boat “Stinger” with the club. Sharon passed away in 2015. The family is having a small get together at Bitter End on the 18th, and is inviting those who remember her to join them as they scatter her ashes. The family is planning to meet at Bitter End about 11 in the morning, go out in a couple of sailboats at about 11:30, and return about 1. Michelle is inviting folks to join the family after at the Lakehouse for a late lunch.
In other club news, it’s about that time of year again, to elect new board members. If you have nominations, or desperately want to volunteer for positions on the board, please contact Mike Gridley (outgoing Commodore).
At present, Cam Girton and I have volunteered to stay on in our current positions of Treasurer and Secretary, Steve Dahlstrom has re-upped for another year as Rear Commodore-Racing, and Mike will revert to the position of Past Commodore. We have received nominations for Kevin Haley as Commodore, and Greg Ransom as Commodore of Vice…oops, make that Vice Commodore…and we are seeking someone to lead the marketing efforts and another for the social events side of the house as Rear Commodore Cruising.
The Annual Dinner is all set (courtesy of Barb Sinnott)…October 21st at Cedars Restaurant on the waterfront in CDA. Festivities will start at 6:00 and the cost for the evening is $40.00 per person. The menu is attached for your perusal…and you can sign up on the website (once Brett gets it posted) or in person at the door.
Commodore’s cup is coming up on the 30th of the month and the first of October…so stay tuned for further information.
Other than that, may Aeolus grant you fair winds and good sailing…and keep the wet side down.
