Board Meeting November 6, 2017
Attending: Carol Mashuga, Peg LaSota, Tina Hughes, Leah Doherty, Carol Hancuh, Judy Osbon, Peggy Wright, Elizabeth Lanzatella, Sharon Castle, Mimie Pollard, Debbie Boyles, Sharon Englund, Joan Carver, Betsy Shannon, and Sally Mortenson at the home of Carol Hancuh
Secretary report by Leah - No corrections or additions to the September minutes.
Treasurer’s report by Tina- Checking account has $5,637.94 and the savings account has $4002.22. We had extra monies this year from special events and outside speakers.
A discussion was held regarding the 2018 budget with board chairs suggesting monies for the next year. Tina will have a report from the end of November for the 2017 budget report and suggestions for the 2018 budget and this discussion will continue into the December social and the January board meeting.
Current membership is 117 with 16 new members this year but 19 members have yet to renew. Tina will start to track reasons of not renewing if known starting this coming year.
Discussion was held about how we can be more welcoming to new members.
Programing by Peggy and Carol M and Betsy- Peggy has 5 persons lined up for school house at the November meeting. Carol and Betsy are working on the speakers for the next year and will have a tentative line up for the year soon. The speakers’ fees are increasing and the budget line for 2018 will reflect an increase for speakers.
Special events- The reports from the Guthrie event were very positive as were the other events this year. Black Friday sew in is filling. Currently we may have 6 openings. The breakeven number is 16 and the room is comfortable for 20. Nancy is working on events for 2018.
Exhibits by Judy, Carol and Sharon- Our exhibit is currently at the Waite Park library and will then move to Lakeville, White Bear UU church, and then the Roseville Town Hall. New forms for the 2018 challenge are on the website.
Retreat by Leah- The 2018 retreats are April 13-16 due to Easter and September 21-24 due to special event at Wapo. The 2019 dates will go back to first weekend in April and October. We have excess from the retreat fees and Leah and Nancy will be purchasing a power steam iron
( $200 on sale at Jo Ann’s soon) and a two Black and Decker classic steam irons (around $35-$39) before the end of the year. The rest of the excess money will go into income for the quild.
Website by Debbie and Peg- request that board members pass along any quilt-related member news to Debbie and Peg (and also Elizabeth).
Newsletter by Sharon and Elizabeth- a discussion was held regarding the need to continue to print the newsletter and we decided to no longer print the newsletter but be open to doing this again if requests are made. The deadline for the next newsletter is DECEMBER 15 and Elizabeth will have the draft ready early January.
2 Bit Bags by Joan, Sally and Sharon- Replacement parts were purchased from the missing bits from the design wall drawing last month.
November’s theme for the bags will be Joan’s garage sale as she is getting rid of all the extra things she has in her basement from her term as bag lady. January will be kitchen theme by the 9/37 small group. Sally and Sharon are working on ideas for 2018 and the mystery bag will continue. Discussion was held regarding the use of these funds during the budget discussion and will continue.
Textile Center update by Carol M- go to the website to get all current information. Carol has been contacted regarding our guild cosponsoring events at the Textile center but no firm events are planned at this point.
State of the Union by Carol M- It has been a good year with great events and our budget is healthy.
A December gathering for current, retiring and new board members will be held at the home of Carol Mashuga on December 4th. She is providing food and more details will be forthcoming.
2019 Planning by Mimie- A vice president is needed!! Send any suggestions to Mimie and she will contact that person. The next board meeting will be in January and then every 2 months for the year and dates will be set probably at the December gathering.
She has been contacted by an outside group for design work and art piece for next October and we declined to be involved.
