2 / Week Focus: Codes and Conventions
Students away for Half of MPA classes on year 12 Camp.
Homework – Students expected to work on Task 1 Response to ‘Run Lola Run’ this week. / Students to work on Part (a) and (b) of Task 1.
3 / Week Focus: Narrative
- Focus on codes and conventions of festival film /Run Lola Run that differentiate from classic Hollywood 3 act structure.
- Discuss non-linear narrative
- View Excerpts ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ & ‘Memento’, ‘Miss Congeniality’
Students to work on Part (c) and (d) of Task 1.
4 / Week Focus: Controls and Constraints
- Controls and Constraints of independent productions
- View segments of ‘directions’ to further enhance understanding of media art techniques.
- View Clips from ‘The Five Obstructions’ and Robert Rodriguez ’10 minute Film School’ 1.

5 / Week Focus: Auteur Theory/Producers Preferred Meaning
- Students introduced to Auteur theory and how it relates to media art.
- Focus on art-house cinema, niche audiences & subcultures.
- In Class Essay Number 1
6 / Week Focus: Emerging Technologies and impact on Media Art
- Globalisation and emerging digitaltechnology such as worldwide distribution for independents through iTunes (Robert Rodriguez focus).
- Discussion of the Red Cam and DSLR technology.
- View Robert Rodriguez 10 minute film schools 2.
- Article Summary Number 2
7 / Week Focus: Cultural Context and Values
- Discussion of how social and cultural context shapes media texts.
- Discussion of Directors who have challenged dominant values through their films.
- Focus on Film Noir and how this movement was shaped by it’s cultural context.
- In Class Essay Number 2
8 / Week Focus: Pre-Production Planning
- Introduction to production task and the importance of documentation for external production submission.
- Group formation and brainstorming for production task begins with written treatment being finalized by weeks end.

- Continue pre-production planning process for media art production.
