Because the car # that was stamped on the patent plate no longer matched the engine number starting some time in 1911, this plate would work well for a 1914 or early 1915. And Lang's shows the same tag for the 1913 - 16 so it might work fine for a 1913 also. The later 1915s had the same plate, but it was no longer stamped with a number, but rather the number area was left blank. And in this case, it appears the tag came off a pre-1915 as it does not have the crease on the left hand top corner from the 1915 cowl. I'm not sure if the 1915 Centerdoors and other closed car models had that same style cowl on the inside that would cover the top left corner of the ID plate or not. The top left picture on page 205 of Bruce's book shows the ID tag out in the open on the Centerdoor. And from memory -- I think more of the top of the center door dashboard is visible from the inside of the car than on the touring. But someone with a Centerdoor or other closed car could let us know that answer.

Below is Jim Cook's 1916 Paten Tag showing the blank number area. Note how the dash goes across the top left edge of the paten plate. I would leave a diagonal mark if the tag had been installed on a car with that type of dash.

THe patent plate Lang sells for 13-15 is incorrect for 13-15 simply because it has a 1916 date on the plate. I have a few 13-15 plates to sell and I believe someone else does as well.

Here are two original plates used during the 1913-1915 period. There were two styles and both are illustrated here (and both are originals). I have some vintage reproductions of the style illustrated that has a number stamped.

Here illustrated are two reproductions. The brass one is style number one used on 1913-14 and perhaps 1915 Fords. The aluminum one is for 1916-1918 Model t Fords.
