Course description:
The fundamental purpose of this course is to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in Algebra I and the middle grades. In the Algebra I critical areas of focus students deepen and extend their understanding of linear equations/inequalities and linear functions. Students engage in methods for analyzing, solving, and using radicals, polynomials, quadratic equations and functions. In the Geometry critical areas of focus students formalize and extend geometric experiences from the middle grades. Students explore more complex geometric situations and deepen their explanations of geometric relationships, moving towards formal mathematical arguments. Important differences exist between these Geometry units and the historical approach taken in Geometry classes. The Standards for Mathematical Practice apply throughout each course, and, together with the content standards, prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations.

Student materials needed:
Students need the following items to be prepared for class daily.
· 2 composition notebooks
· 2 writing utensils (pencil)
· Ipad (charged nightly)
Grading Policy:
Grades within each grading period will be calculated as follows:
Tests/Projects: 50%
Quizzes: 30%
Daily assignments/notes, etc.: 20%
Personalized Notebook: The notebook will be organized as follows:
Page 1: Title Page This will include the Course Title, Student’s Name, and Block #
Page 2: Personal Page Personal information, hobbies, and interests – be creative.
Page 3: Things to Remember Algebra Things to Remember reference sheet to be taped or glued in.
Page 4: EOC Reference Sheet This will be available to you during the EOC.
Page 5-7: Table of Contents Students will list all daily topics here as the year progresses.
Page 8-end: Students will fill the notebook with class notes and worksheets.
§ A date should appear on all pages, starting with page 9. Dates should be written in the upper outside corner of the page.
§ Students should use color, highlighting, and a personal touch to make this self-built notebook a positive learning tool.
§ Each notebook entry should include the following sections: Date, Subject, Objective, Bell Ringer, and Notes.
§ The notebooks will be collected periodically for a grade.
Daily Assignments:
In order to achieve success in this class you should be here every day! If you miss a class period, it is your responsibility to find out about your assignment and make up the work within 5 days. You will be able to access notes and assignments on Schoology, organized by topic. Late work will be accepted for excused absences and special circumstances.

*Please remember that severe behavior may result in removal from class and an automatic referral.
General school and district rules that will be upheld:
1. Electronic devices such as cell phones or music devices, playing cards, hats, gum, candy, and food are not allowed in class. These are school and district rules!
2. All rules, including dress code, will be upheld as they apply to students from the student code of conduct and LMHS.
Procedures:
1. Upon entering the class, sharpen your pencil, go directly to your seat, take out your notebook, and begin the bell work.
2. Leaving Class -remain in your seat until you are dismissed by me.
3. Bathroom breaks – ** No breaks allowed the first 10 minutes and last 5 minutes of class **. You have to get in classroom first, get your class materials ready and start bell work. Only one student will be allowed out at a time, with a pass. Leaving during instruction is not permitted.
4. Additional procedures covered during class will be available on Schoology for reference.
