GUIDANCE ON COMPLETING THE APPLICATION FORM
Application deadline
The deadline for submitting this application form is 15 February for the entire subsequent academic year (the next autumn and/or spring). In the second round (deadline 15 September), you can only apply for any surplus student places and grants for the spring semester. There is no guaranteed number of student places or grants in the second round. If possible, you should therefore apply by 15 February, irrespective of when you want to study abroad.
Answers to application for nomination and grants
You can expect to receive an answer about nomination within five to six weeks of the application deadline. After the application deadline, the student places will be assigned by the agreement coordinator, after which the agreement coordinator will notify you directly. The coordinator is also obliged to inform the host university that you have been nominated for a student place. Please note that after nomination you must apply for admission to the host university.
(2) Prioritisation of destination
If you apply to several host universities, you increase your chances of getting a place. Specify the host universities in order of priority. In item 2, enter all the Nordplus/Nordlys destinations you wish to apply for.
(2) Study period
State the study period abroad. You can check when the semesters start and finish etc. on the host university's website. If there is no up-to-date information available on future semesters, use the information on the current semester
(2) Agreement coordinator
The Nordplus networks are subject-specific. In other words, if you are a student at Law, you can apply via Law's networks, and if you are a student at Psychology you can apply via Psychology's networks etc. You will find the list of Nordplus networks as well as the names of the coordinators at
Nordlys is an interdisciplinary network, i.e. you can apply to study at one of the above-mentioned universities regardless of what you are studying at AU. The International Centre coordinates Nordlys. You will find a list of participating universities here:
(3) Preliminary approval
For your first choice, you must have obtained a preliminary approval, which must be attached to your application. It is usually the board of studies, director of studies etc. who will consider your application for preliminary approval (check with your subject). It may take up to one month to consider the preliminary approval. Please note that you only have to include a preliminary approval for your first choice. Thus, if you are applying to five different universities, you do not need a preliminary approval for all five destinations.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY – If you did not manage to have your preliminary approval considered before the application deadline, please indicate that the preliminary approval will be forwarded later. Please note that your application cannot be finalised until we have received your preliminary approval.
(3) List of subjects
For your first choice, we have your preliminary approval. However, if you have also chosen other priorities, we need a list of the subjects you want to do at these destinations. There is no template available for this list – you just need to create a simple list in Word, for example.
(4) If you are applying under several programmes – list them all in order of priority
If you are applying under several programmes, then specify the order of priority. This makes it easier for us to handle your applications and to follow your wishes to the greatest possible extent. Please state which programme(s) you are applying under: Erasmus, Nordplus/Nordlys or Overseas. Your chances of a successful application will not be impaired if we can see that you have also applied under other programmes. There is only space for eight priorities; we do not expect that you will need more.
(5) Grant
When applying for a student place through Nordplus/Nordlys, you will automatically be applying for an accompanying student grant. In item 5, you must state whether you have previously received funding from Nordplus/Nordlys or another programme.
More information about Nordplus/Nordlys can be found at
