DO NOT DO/DO LIST

Before you turn in your writing, look at the bottom do’s and don’s list to edit any grammar mistakes.

LOOK AT THIS BEFORE YOU TURN IN YOUR PAPER AND CHECK OFF

1) Capitalize the beginning of each sentence. Use and endpoint at the end of each sentence. Ex. period(.), question mark(?), exclamation points(!)

2) Names are always capitalized. Ex. Clermont Middle School, World Wrestling Federation. Specific names and beginning of sentences.

3) Do NOT start sentences with conjunctions AND, BUT, SO. Use transitional words instead. Ex. furthermore, in addition, however, as for, nevertheless, moreover, yet, with respect to, in conclusion.

4) Indent and actually have paragraphs in writing.

5) A LOT is two words. Pick up more sophisticated word like an ample, several, a multitude, a myriad.

6) Capitalize “I” if it is referring to you. Otherwise don’t. Do NOT draw little hearts for your dot!

7) Do NOT use “&” or “+” for “and”.

8) Plurals (more than one) add “s”. Add “es” when words end in o, sh, ch, x.

9) Possessives are NOT plurals which are NOT contractions. Do not use contractions like didn’t, couldn’t, wouldn’t, isn’t, can’t, don’t, ext.

10) Know the difference between:

a. To, too, and two

b. There, their, and they’re

c. Your and you’re

d. Its and it’s

11) Sentence should be thoughts subject (noun) and predicate (verb). This is called fragment.

12) If a word ends in “y” and you change the ending – like when you make it plural or another version of the word. Change “y” to “i” and add “es”. Ex. Sky = Skies Happy=Happiness
