GENERAL INFORMATION

RFA Planning Committee Continues it’s Work

Work continues on the planning for the possible creation of a Regional Fire Authority. Following a recommendation on the question of governance, the Committee is now focusing on financial issues to evaluate the assets and liabilities of each of the participating agencies. As part of that analysis district staff have been evaluating the age, condition and approximate value of all fire stations and vehicles. The next meeting of the RFA is scheduled for June 24th.

Planter’s Days a Success

The Clark County Fire & Rescue Firefighters Association had a very successful weekend during Woodland’s Planter’s Days. BBQ sandwich sales were brisk and participants seemed to have a good time. A final count of the total number of sandwiches sold is still being tallied.

TRAINING

Several Training Burns Planned

As the work on SR 502 moves forward the fire district has acquired a number of residential structures to be used for training. For the month of June they include:

·  June 27 – 7915 NE 219th Street

·  June 28 – 4701 NE 219th Street

·  June 29 – 2702 NE 219th Street

These structures will help firefighters meet an L&I training requirement that mandates all firefighters to participate in “live fire” training at least once every 3 years.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

Two Respond to Ambulance RFP

The request for proposals (RFP) for ambulance service for the City of Vancouver and EMS District 2, which includes the cities of Battle Ground, Ridgefield, La Center, and Woodland, drew just two respondents. American Medical Response (AMR) and Faulk Ambulance both submitted proposals. A review committee is now evaluating both proposals and will submit their findings and recommendation to the Vancouver City Council for a final decision. July 7th has been set as a target date for final selection, however that date may be extended by a few days if necessary. The new ambulance contract will take effect January 1, 2015.

Five Companies Respond to Radio System RFP

A total of 5 respondents submitted proposals to the County’s request for a replacement communications system for the aging 800 MHz emergency radio system. 3 of the 5 companies proposed entire systems (backbone and radios) and 2 of the companies submitted proposals for one component of the system only. Motorola, Harris, and Tate were the 3 respondents that submitted proposals for the entire system. Evaluation committees are now pouring through the proposals and will have their recommendations to the CRESA Board within the next 30 days.
