Lab:Upgrade Management Tool: Incremental Upgrade and Overwrite Options
/Scenario
Perform an Incremental Upgrade using Upgrade management tool/
Objectives
In this lab, you will:Perform an Incremental Upgrade using Upgrade management tool
Learn about the override options
Use BIAR file as a source for Incremental Upgrade (For logistical reasons and for the purposes of the training, a BIAR file will be used as a source instead of a live CMS system. Functionality-wise, they are the same).
Perform the following steps as described in order:
Pre-upgrade Activities
- For the training: use the input BIAR file located at: C:\RKT\Upgrade Manager\UM_Lab4.biar
- For normal usage outside of the training: generate a BIAR file on the source BOE deployment (versions XIR2 and up but older than BI 4.0, Upgrade management tool will not accept BIAR files generated by a BI 4.0 deployment by-design) using tools such as command-line BIAR biarengine.jar or Import Wizard
- Make sure the BI 4.0 CMS and FRS servers are enabled and running
- This lab requires the content from UM Lab 3 to have been imported into this BI 4.0 system
Upgrade activities
PLEASE NOTE: For logistical reasons and for the purposes of the training, a BIAR file will be used as a source instead of a live CMS system. Functionality-wise, they are both very similar. In a normal, Live to Live Incremental Upgrade, all selected objects are migrated to the destination, and the user rights that are set on these objects may or may not be migrated depending on the setting you selected in the Upgrade Options dialog.
- Launch Upgrade management tool
- In Windows, Click Start Menu->All Programs->SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0->SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise->Upgrade management tool
- Click Incremental Upgrade
- Click Next
- In the Upgrade Scenario dropdown box, select BIAR to Live
- Click the … button next to the Source BIAR file text box
- Select the BIAR file located on the file system: C:\RKT\Upgrade Manager\UM_Lab4.biar
- Click Open
- In the Destination section, specify the name of the local BI 4.0 CMS
- Type in “train-xx” (where XX= 00 or 01) as the User Name and Password
- Click Next
- In this step, we will explore the dependency resolving capability of Upgrade management tool.
- In this BIAR, you will find only reports.
- Expand the “Folders and Objects” folder and select the “UM_Lab3”
We want to demonstrate the different overwrite options. So we are going to overwrite the existing content.
- Click Next
- In the Summary Screen, notice that you have 2 Webi reports – i.e. Webi (2 objects). Customer Reservation Information is the name of an existing report but the CUID is different and the second report has the same CUID as Bookings Per Region but has a different name.
Do Not Export object in case of conflict
- Select the “Upgrade Options” button and select the option “Do not export object”
- Click Ok
- Click Start to start the upgrade process
- Monitor the upgrade process by paying attention to the on-screen status updates
- Upgrade is completed when the “Upgrade Completed” dialog pops up

- Click Close and examine the document in Bi_Launchpadwith the user train-xx/train-xx. The previous report, named Bookings Per Region has been replaced with Webi Same CUID Different Name (Report Name Changed) but Customer Reservation Information has not been copied
