WELCOME TO 7th Grade!
7th Grade CORE – X 2016-2017
Mr. Tabone & Mr. Shropshire
In Peekskill Middle School, you take classes in several core subjects. These subjects include Math, ELA, Social Studies, and Science. In addition to your core subjects, you are a student in CORE-X. CORE-X is a tutorial period designed to strengthen the skills you acquire in the core classes. It also gives you an opportunity to practice using the content you have learned.
Written below are some of the topics we will be covering in our class. Included in this information is the break down of grades, and class expectations.
7th Grade CORE - X topics:
●The Writing Process
●How to read and understand a variety of texts
●Fundamentals of mathematics
●Strengthening a student’s ability as a reader/writer
●Understanding advanced concepts of 7th grade math
●Reinforce social studies and science concepts
Report Card Grades:
The ultimate goal of Core-X is a student’s success. The Pass/Fail grade given for this class will be based on several classroom components, including:
▪Effort
▪Attitude
▪Motivation
▪Classroom work output
▪Attendance
Classroom participation is the largest part of this class and is the highest expectation. We will all work as a group and help each other improve within the classroom.
As you are now a 7th grade student, you are expected to perform at your highest level, as well as continue to be a model student for those in the younger grades.
Materials:
A marble notebook and personal folder have been assigned to each student as the materials needed for the classroom. These materials should not leave the room, unless instructed by the teacher.
Our one classroom rule is very simple. Respect everyone and everything. This includes your classmates, the school property, desks, computers, and books. Most importantly we will respect each other’s ideas and what each of us says. We don’t interrupt or speak while someone else is speaking. We listen, we think about it, and then we share.
Parents and Guardians,
The half of sheet below will allow us to be in contact with each other about your child’s performance and presence in our class. If there are ever any questions or concerns, please never hesitate to e-mail or contact the school. We hope to be in regular communication with all of you to share good news and achievements, and handle any negative issues if they arise. Please take a few minutes to review this sheet about our class, fill out your information, and send this back with your child. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Mr. Tabone & Mr. Shropshire
