Crofton Library to Host Digital Bookmobile National Tour Event
74-foot truck, electronic ‘gadget gallery’ will demonstrate how customers can access free digital titles
(September 26, 2014 – Annapolis, MD) Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) is pleased to announce that it will host a stop of the Overdrive Digital Bookmobile National Tour, showcasing its free eBook services just outside the Crofton Community Library on Friday, October 10 from 10 am to 4 pm.
At this free event, readers of all ages will learn how to access eBooks and eAudiobooks from the library through interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos. A gadget gallery—featuring Kindle® HD, iPad® Mini, Android™ Galaxy Tablet, NOOK™ HD+, Sony® Reader™, Kindle® Paperwhite, Windows® Phone 8, and more—will help visitors discover portable devices that are compatible with the library’s download service.
AACPL library card holders can also check out digital titles anytime, anywhere by visiting http://www.aacpl.net/ebooks.
“This wonderful event from the Digital Bookmobile National Tour will help us showcase the wealth of eBooks, eAudiobooks and other electronic materials available through our library system,” said Hampton “Skip” Auld, AACPL Chief Executive Officer.
The Digital Bookmobile is housed inside an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. This 74-foot community outreach vehicle is a high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile that has served communities for decades. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high-definition monitors, premium sound systems and a variety of portable media players, all of which help visitors explore AACPL’s digital services. Interactive learning stations give visitors an opportunity to search the library’s digital media collection of eBooks and eAudiobooks.
Patrons can take advantage of the service 24/7 when they visit the library’s website at aacpl.net/ebooks. From there, they can browse the growing collection of bestselling, new release and classic titles, and check out digital titles with a valid library card. Once the digital materials have been checked out, they can enjoy them in the browser or transfer them to their computer or a supported mobile device. At the end of the lending period, titles will automatically expire and are returned to the digital collection. There are never late fees or damaged items.
The Digital Bookmobile is operated by OverDrive, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio.
