a The searches for LOX protein sequences reported here were conducted in the protein database UniProt using the key world “lipoxygenase”. LOX proteins were checked for the elements important for activity, and LOXs without these elements were not used in this study. The majority of the LOXs is referred by their Swiss-Prot entry names. Owing to the lack of Swiss-Prot entry names, the LOXs from B. distachyon are tentatively named for the purpose of this work. The common wheat LOX reported in this work are tentatively named as TaLOX3. They are also referred as LOX3_WHEAT, to facilitate phylogenetic analysis. The UniProt accession numbers are provided for those LOXs with Swiss-Prot entry names. Also given are the numbers of amino acid residues in the deduced proteins of the all the LOXs.
b LOX labeled with superscript “ch” indicates the presence of a predicted chloroplast targeting peptide. LOX1_HORVU and Q42847_HORVD represent the two barley seeds LOXs, LOX-1 and LOX-2, respectively (van Mechelen et al., 1999). The chromosomal loci of the LOXs from rice are provided in brackets.
