Course Syllabus

Bachelor of Science in Art and Education/Music Minor, Campbellsville University

1 Trimester - .5 credit

Recommended Grade Level: 9-12

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Description

Students will work in Adobe Photoshop to create art. The use of a digital camera and scanner will be incorporated into teaching self-expression through digital media.

Rules

  1. Respect- Respect yourself, others, and supplies.
  2. Do not interfere with learning in anyway. If you are creating a distraction to the class where the majority of the class cannot learn, you are breaking this rule. Everyone has the right to an education.
  3. Do not vandalize or tamper with the computers equipment.
  4. No games, even after your work is finished.
  5. No web surfing, videos, texting, or other cellphone use.
  6. No food or drink in the computer lab.

Procedures

  1. Turn on computer and log in as soon as you enter the classroom.
  2. Open Photoshop and the class website(edmodo.com) as you work on Bellwork.
  3. Begin the daily lesson or continue to work on the project in progress.
  4. Work from bell to bell.
  5. Stay logged in until I tell you to log out.

Seating Chart

You will be responsible for the computer and other equipment at your workstation. Let me know immediately if you have a problem with your computer, mouse, keyboard, etc. You are allowed to sit where you want until you cause a distraction, and you will permanently assigned a seat for the rest of the year.

Late Work

Each day an assignment is late, you will have 10% deducted from your final grade. After 5 days, you will be given a 0 for the assignment. If you are absent from class the day the assignment is due, please inform me on the assignment when you turn it in.

Leaving the Room

1. You may use the hall pass once per week.

2. No passes will be given during the first or last 10 minutes of class.

Grading

Weekly Folder = 20%

You will be creating projects assigned at the beginning of the week that will be due at the end of the week. You

are allowed to work on these if you finished early on a project/outside of class.

Critiques/Writing Assignments = 30%

You will critique your own artwork and your peers’ artwork. Writing assignments will be in depth about explaining processes, your own art/others, etc.

Design Projects = 50%

You will create many photography assignments throughout the course and learn how to manipulate photos as well as the basics of Photoshop.

Final Exam = 10%

  1. Students will research careers related to the Visual Arts, specific to drawing.
  2. Students will read at least three Artist’s statements from professional artists OR interviews with professional artists.
  3. Students will write their own artist statement (narrative), OR, with a partner will take turns interviewing one another with a specific art question in mind, and publish that interview for the class/school to read.
  4. Students will publish their artist statement to share with the class.
  5. Students will publish their interviews to share with the class/school, using the school newspaper and/or display case.
