Lord Howe Island Bird Monitoring Project – Pelagic survey form

This form is for the collection of bird records from pelagic surveys done around Lord Howe Island. If you visit Balls Pyramid, please record all species you see around the Pyramid and if possible, provide an estimate of the number of individuals of each species. The coordinates are: 31 45 / 159 15

Tour operators offer a number of fishing trips to various pelagic destinations around the island. Please record the seabirds you see on these trips and submit a survey form. If possible, calculate the approximate coordinates of your recording area. The boat skipper may be able to assist with that, or see map on back.

If you don’t manage to record your pelagic survey location using a GPS, this map may assist you with locating your approximate survey coordinates. It shows Lord Howe Island with 10km buffer rings around the island, as well as a 10-minute grid. As pelagic species are highly mobile, the survey coordinates do not need to be as precise as for land based surveys.
