Literature: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Essential Questions:

  • How do we find our way in a world that oftenworks in ways that are in direct opposition to our own desires and aspirations?

  • Is it our character that determines our fate?
  • If character does determine fate, then how do we explain innocents’ suffering?
  • To what extent do we create and control our own destiny?

Writing: Assert. Provide. Explain. (synthesis writing process) & Thesis Statements

& Proper Paragraph Structure GUM: modifiers, subject/verb agreement, & plurals/singulars

11.5:

  1. Take 10: Comma & Semicolon Review
  2. The class will finish chapter 4 of Peregrine’sand begin chapter 5; we will continue our look at setting, tone & mood.
  3. Homework: There will be a spot check of your packet next class. About ½ of it should be complete.

11.9:

  2. Prewriting to Planning: We will be going to the lab (1409) where each student will work one on one with Mrs. Douglas on his/her essential question prewriting. During this time, when not working with her, you will be reading chapter 6 (quiz next class) OR doing book blog work (online, Edmodo).
  3. Homework: Your first Q2 book blog response is due by next class.

  3. Prewriting to Planning: We will be going back to the lab (2402) again so that individual writing conferences can be finished up. Today’s focus when not working with Mrs. Douglas is to:
  4. Do the online: A Picture is Worth 1000 Words Assignment (Edmodo)
  5. Finish Chapter 6 (quiz next class)

  4. Annotations Refresher: Work on 1st half of Chapter 7

  6. Homework: If you do not finish your annotations during class, they will need to be completed for homework.

  2. We will be going to the lab today (2402). You have two missions:
  3. DRAFT (complete, proper paragraphs) for your essay based on last class’ framework.
  4. Begin the first half of chapter 8 (quiz next class).
