Lord of the Flies: Symbol Presentation

You have been studying the novel Lord of the Flies for some time now. You have a strong understanding of the novel’s meaning, and have a clear understanding of your symbol’s meaning. What does your symbol mean? Why is your symbol important?

Now it’s time to share your findings. (During your presentation, you will be referring to the quotes you have already hung on the walls…)

In this formal oral presentation, you must begin with

Introduction: Begin with a to-the-point (2-3 sentences), attention-grabbing introduction, leading directly to the introduction of your symbol

And then move on to explain the following:

· Start of the novel:

o Where does your symbol first appear? (Include physical description of the symbol as it first appears.)

o What is its meaning in the early part of the novel?

o What is the best example of this? (Include the page number, and be able to explain to the class where they can find the quote.)

o Why is this important?

o What part of the theme does this develop?

· Middle of the novel:

o How has the symbol changed physically?

o What is its meaning in the middle of the novel?

o What is the best example of this? (Include the page number, and be able to explain to the class where they can find the quote.)

o How does this quote prove your claim? (explain how the key words of the quote prove your claim.)

o Why is this important?

o What part of the theme does this develop?

· Close of the novel:

o How has the symbol changed physically?

o What is its meaning at the end of the novel?

o What is the best example of this? (Include the page number, and be able to explain to the class where they can find the quote.)
