Introduction
Intravenous Drug Users (IDU) /
- SLWG set up to identify mechanisms to reduce number of IDU’s. Recommendations presented to the DATS included increase access to treatment, provision of outreach work, increase amount of information available for drug users, including prevention of initiation and explore further effective vehicles to disseminate the information.
- Drugs Action co-ordinated a service users audit to assess and plan the development of a pilot psychostimulant service.
- Following an audit of IDU’s A&E have increased the prevention initiatives in an attempt to reduce the attendance of IDU’s with associated injuries, infections and overdoses.
General Public /
- The BBV public awareness campaign continuously evaluates information developed on BBV’s Various methods are used including focus groups, audit and review of usage.
- World AIDS week events are all evaluated which feeds into the planning and delivery of subsequent events. In particular the briefing sessions aimed at empowering professionals to disseminate information and develop local events were very positive with a number of areas running events.
Young People /
- A recent Youth lifestyle survey revealed that fewer young people are worried about HIV, and there appears to be more confusion about transmission compared to three years ago.
- A series of seminars were undertaken to establish the sexual health needs of looked after young people. A multi-agency group has been reviewing the recommendations.
- An Aberdeenshire working group is developing an action plan relating to young people and sexual health which will be incorporated into the sexual health strategy.
- In response to the high rate of teenage pregnancies in Moray an SMS drop-in service has been established in Elgin to provide young people with information on all aspects of healthy lifestyles including sexual health, provision of contraception, pregnancy testing and chlamydia testing.
- Proposals are being considered by the three local authorities to support sexual health education to professionals in school communities.
Professionals with a health promotion remit / There has been an increase in education to HCW , in particular nursing staff, as a result of ongoing audit of educational needs
Effectiveness of interventions / Regular and continuous evaluation is carried out
Monitoring or work undertaken / Regular auditing of activity reporting is standard across all funded groups including drug misuse services, needle exchange, sexual health services and public health.
