Instructions for Completing the Continuing Professional Development Plan/Record
This section of the application requires that you complete a Professional Development Plan (PDP) that covers the four areas listed below. Each area begins with a question (brown text). Each of the four areas contains a list of examples (blue text) that applicants may wish to focus their professional development goals within.

- Teaching Methodology and Student Learning
How will you develop professional expertise to advance quality teaching and learning? – examples include:
- Participating actively in professional development association(s)
- Facilitating instruction and support learning
- Engaging students in the learning process
- Assessing and evaluating student learning
- Involvement in development or improvement process
- Collecting and evaluating data to make improvements
- Participating in attaining an undergraduate or graduate degree. Coursework and results must align with stated goal.
- Industry Technology / Skills / Knowledge
What will you do to build subject matter expertise in your career and technical subject area? – examples include:
- Participating actively in professional development association(s)
- Contributing to the Education Profession
- Continuing to build on one’s industry and technology knowledge base
- Keeping current with cutting-edge industry/technology developments
- Participating in professional efforts to develop/utilize industry technology/skills
- Attaining industry certification

– examples include:
- Engaging in community service organization as participant or leader
- Engaging/mentoring students in community service organization as participant or leader

Below is an example form to use as a guide in completing your PDP. The form states what is required in order to establish focused, achievable goals that are measureable. A reliable method for writing goals utilizes an acronym called SMART. Resources for writing SMART Goals may be found at:

What do I want to learn? / What will I do to achieve it? / How will I know I have succeeded? / What resources/support will I need? / Target DateState a focused, achievable goal in terms that will be measureable. / Describe actions that will be undertaken and completed in order to accomplish the goal. / Describe how results will be measured, and what will constitute success. / List the human and financial resources needed to support the learning and research. / Identify date by which the project will be completed.
Note: As an applicant for the CCTE certification, you must carefully design your professional development plan. Reading and understanding these Instructions for Completing the Continuing Professional Development Plan/Recordis required before you proceed. Do not use abbreviations when completing the forms without first spelling out what the abbreviations represents. The completed forms must measure up to professional writing and content standards.
Review your goals and measureable outcomes with your supervisor. If you still need help in understanding how to write achievable, measureable goals, contact your supervisor for assistance.
