Mission Statement

We, the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, are an all-embracing, diverse Christian community who warmly welcomes everyone to join us. We draw closer to God and one another through worship, which nourishes us for service to our brothers and sisters. We choose to combine our many gifts to teach, celebrate, evangelize, help those in need and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus in word and deed. Amen.

DIOCESAN BUILDING INTERCULTURAL CONNECTIONS (BIC) Conference will be presented on Saturday, February 23 at 9:30 am and conclude with 5 pm multi-cultural mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Bear, DE. The outstanding curriculum has been developed by a multi-cultural team from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and is being presented nationally. Admission is free. A 5$ donation will be requested for a magnificent multi-cultural lunch.

This conference is for clergy, religious, lay leaders, liturgists, educators, outreach coordinators, and all interested Catholics.

Save the Date…Our Annual March Parish Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 9 from 6 to 10 pm in the Parish Hall. This year’s theme is “Seton Go Braugh”…Seton Forever! It will be fabulously and deeply steeped in the Irish Tradition. Tickets go on sale the weekend of Jan. 26 and 27th. Hope to see all of your there…especially our Pilgrims going to Ireland in April!

SPIRITUAL GROWTH GROUP – Take an inward journey with others toward a deepening relationship with Christ through prayer, Scripture and small-group faith-sharing. Six Thursday mornings, beginning Jan. 3 and continuing through Feb. 7, from 9:15 to 11am in the chapel. Coffee and sweets served at 9am.Led by Anita Wood

SPIRITUALITY AND STRESS – Snowed out the last time, we try again to explore ways to deal with the stress in our lives (whether it is weather or work, caring for elders or children) by using common sense and the gift of faith. Monday, Jan. 28, 7-8:30PM in the library. Led by Anita.

“Another reason to celebrate at Seton” Feb. 2nd and 3rd weekend marks the 15th anniversary of the dedication of our church building – when our “real” church became our sacred worship space –Feb.1, 1998.

ALL Masses that weekend will commemorate that dedication and be followed by refreshments in the hall.

Bishop Malooly along with our parish priests and deacon plus Father Clem Manista, Monsignor Charlie Brown, Father John McVoy will celebrate the 11am Mass. The architects for our church building – Mr. George and Mrs. Lotus Yu – will be with us also.

Please join in the celebration and plan to remain after Masses for the receptions and enjoy the company of fellow parishioners. The DVD of the Dedication Mass will be shown in the church during the receptions.

Please note that the Entrance Procession for the 11am mass will begin in the hall as it did in 1998 and be led by our choir, Knights of Columbus and our Bishop. Please join us!

First Reconciliation- Books are due into the Religious Ed office. The Sacrament of First Reconciliation is 1/26/13 at 12:00N in the church.

First Eucharist Parent Meeting is Wed. 1/ 30 OR Thurs. 1/31 at 6:50 in the Formation Center. Eligible students should be baptized, in 2nd grade or older, have attended Religious Ed classes or Catholic School the year previous to the sacrament as well as the current school year and have completed Reconciliation preparation.

2013 CONFIRMATION PROGRAM

Information regarding the 2013 Confirmation Program was mailed out last week. If you have not received the information packet and your child is currently attending the 9th grade RE program or If you have a child in grades 9+ and are in a Catholic School, please contact Lucy Lopez x101 to register your child for this mailing. The program begins with an Open House on Monday January 28, 2013 from 6:30-8:30pm in the Parish Hall. Question regarding eligibility for confirmation should be directed to Mary Holmburg x104.

MARRIAGE HELP – Retrouvaille is a Catholic based program to help marriages that are stressed or in trouble. Retrouvaille has helped countless married couples in all stages of disillusionment or misery in their marriage. Retrouvaille can help your marriage too. The next two programs will be held at St. Joseph in the Hills Malvern Retreat Center, Malvern, PA. There will be a program February 8-10 and another program April 12-14. All calls are confidential. ST. VINCENT dePAUL SOCIETY - Win a 42 " flatscreen TV in time for the superbowl! and help the poor at the same time! The St Vincent de Paul Society is raffling offa TV the weekend of Jan 26, 27 after all the masses. Tickets are $5 or 5 tickets for $20. With only a limited number of tickets being sold, your odds are very good!

Monthly Bingo is Friday, February 1st, 7 - 10:00PM. Doors open at 6PM. This Bingo Event will be honoring and celebrating Millie's 100th birthday. There is cake for all! The 20 game packet costs $20. Additional packets and specials can be purchased. Refreshments are available. There will be a 50/50 drawing. We will be collecting nonperishable food items at this Bingo Event for those in need in the community. For each item donated, a special sheet, maximum of four, will be given to be used on the last game. Must be 18 or older to attend.

CALL TO PRAYER – Each last Sunday of the month January through November of 2013 there will be a Eucharistic Holy Hour beginning on January 27 as part of the Call to Prayer to which all the faithful are invited. The first Holy Hour will be conducted at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Wilmington on January 27 at 4:00pm.

THE GOOD WEIGH Seton’s newest group, “The Good Weigh.” We will meet Wednesday at 7:00pm weekly in the parish hall to lose those pounds, get to our desired weight, and maintain our weight loss. For information please email:

HOUSEKEEPING DETAIL… parents please be careful in regards to allowing children too close to the glass in many parts of the church. We want to make sure that all are safe. And thank you for bringing your children to pray and learn here at Seton. The Seton family continues to grow well.

BOX TOPS – We are still collecting box tops for education. Just cut them off your cereal, soup, and snack containers and drop them in the box in the gathering space.
