“I studied Physics in India, and then went on to read for a Master’s in Finance and Economics at the the London School of Economics. I then worked in a strategy consultancy in Delhi and Mumbai, but I was really attracted by the entrepreneurial culture of LSEG and the fact that they focus on training future leaders. It’s very non-hierarchical here and you get to make your own opportunities.

“My first role was to work on the upgrade of the LSE’s trading systems, as part of a strategic plan to enhance our market infrastructure. It gave me a good understanding of how things work within the first six months of joining. From there, I moved to regulatory strategy and government relations. My role is to help the various LSEG businesses understand the impact of regulatory change on the Group and the strategic opportunities that exist. That means articulating the views of LSEG to politicians, regulators and others . You know your work always has to be of a high standard, as it may be referenced in our Chairman or CEO’s meetings with, say, the Chancellor, Governor of the Bank of England or the Chair of the EU Parliament.

“The further you grow within the business, the more responsibility you take on. So you might start out by helping with one aspect of a piece of work, say a strategic transaction, a new market or product, or the impact of a new regulation. You can then progress to becoming the lead for a larger aspect – or indeed, the entire piece – of work.

“The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive is a significant regulation, which changes the EU rulebook to address, in part, the causes of the financial crisis. I took the lead on public policy and like to feel that we played a significant part in helping to shape the legislation, particularly with regard to the open access requirements, which LSEG champions. For me, it personally involved significant analysis and external representation, and it was a great achievement for the group “You’re always learning while you’re here. It’s a dynamic organisation with a truly stellar reputation and it’s changing constantly. It’s already very different to the business I joined four years ago. I’ve also been fortunate to take on a role which has given me the opportunity to spend time in Brussels, Rome, Paris and DC.

“I’ve enjoyed getting involved in the work LSEG does to support charity. I’ve run the Royal Parks Half Marathon, for example, as part of a team of ten who together raised over £15k for Friendship Works, a charity which mentors disadvantaged children.

“Travel and sport are both things that I enjoy. In my spare time, I swim and play basketball and golf. I’ve played with the LSEG cricket team too, and travelled out to Porto with the team on tour.”
