Room 108 News
Welcome back! I hope everyone has had a relaxing and fun-filled summer. I am looking forward to working with your child as they begin Grade 1! This newsletter contains information that will help us get started for the school year.
Forms: Please complete all of the forms and return them as soon as possible. These forms are very valuable as they provide us with your contact information, as well as information about your child’s allergies/food restrictions.
Agendas: Your child will receive an agenda this year at a cost of$6. This agenda is an important part of home and school communication and it will keep you up to date about what is going on in the classroom. It will also allow you to write down any notes you may have for me (e.g. lunch pick-ups, appointments, absences, concerns about your child etc). I will be checking agendas every morning. Please make sure that you check and sign it each night.
Entry/Dismissal: The school bell rings at 8:25am. If your child comes to school after that time, please ring the front door bell and be buzzed in by the office. Late slips can be picked up at the Attendance office, which is located next to the main office. Bussed students will not be required to get late slips if the buses are running later than normal. The students will be dismissed at 3:00pm by the doors facing the playscape.
Snacks/Lunch: In Grade 1, students will receive 2 recess breaks (15 minutes each) as well as a lunch break (20 minutes for eating, 40 minutes outside). Please continue to pack healthy and nutritious snacks and lunches for your child, as well as all necessary cutlery. Just a friendly reminder that Albion Heights is a Nut-Free School, since we have several students who have severe nut allergies.
Water Bottles: It looks like the hot and humid summer weather is continuing right into September! Please send a water bottle to school with your child so that he/she can keep hydrated throughout the day.
Gym/Shoes: Ms. McCormack will be teaching the children Gym everyother day this year. Please ensure that your child brings and keeps a pair of indoor running shoes at school. This will allow your child to participate in Gym, as well as keep our floors and carpets rain/mud/snow free. Running shoes withoutlaces are preferred if your child is still learning to tie his/her shoes up independently. I’d like to encourage parents/guardians to continue to practise this fine motor skill at home when possible.
Birthdays: Birthdays are important milestones in a child’s life. As such, if you wish to send in treats for birthday celebrations, we ask that you please send inedible treats such as pencils, erasers, or stickers.
September will be a very busy month but I really look forward to meeting you and working with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school at 416-394-7520.
Sincerely,
Ms. Salim
