What is Operation Nighthawk?
It’s a 12+ km overnight hike.During the hike you will peform activites at stunt sites for points.You will be required to use your compass and the map you are given to navigate your way.
There will be 7 Stunt sites at which you will be required to complete set tasks.
Activites will be from your badge work.
On arrival at check in – your patrol will be given a departure time.
Check In
Saturday at 1100hrs and 1400hrs
Opening Parade 1500hrs.
First patrol leaves 1700hrs – 1800hrs.
Final Parade 1000hrs Sunday. Presentation of Trophy.
Entry Fee
$10.00 per scout. $10 per leader Payable by Chequeat HQ.On arrival.
Patrol Sizes: Hiking Patrols Min 4 - Max 8
No radio communicators or phonesto be used on the hike.
Patrols will remove all rubbish and take it home with them.
Patrol Requirements
All Patrol members must know how to use a compass and read a map. Each patrol must have at least 2 torches or headlamps. At least 2 patrol members should wear Fluoro vests.
Health Forms
A copy of each scout’s health form is to be handed in at HQ on arrival and please draw attention to any health condition that may need attention during the hike.
No leaders will be hiking with their scouts.
Camping Gear List
- Hike tents, pegs & poles
- Drinking water
- Trangia stoves & fuel & cooking utensils
- Washing up basin, detergent & sponges
- Food suitable for cooking in Trangia
- Example Dinner: Cup-of-soup, Macaroni & Cheese, Choc pudding
- Example Breakfast: milk, fruit & cereals, pancake mix
The camping gear will be assembled at Kensington Scout Hall from 11:00 AM, on Saturday 13th September. Please be at the Hall by 11:00 AM to help with your camping gear.
Hike Gear List
Patrol Leader:
- Clipboard Paper and pen
- 1 Whistle
- 1 Compass
- Small garbage bag
- Snacks
- Small first aid kit
- Fluoro vest at least 2
Scouts must each bring the following in a small backpack:
- Torch (with red light or covered in 3 layers of red cellophane) preferably 1 per scout. Extra torch batteries.
- Cup and spoon. For mid hike milo.
- Hiking Boots are recommended
- Thermals and wet weather gear /poncho.Beanie and warm socks
- Water bottle
Other Personal Gear
- Dilly bag containing eating utensils and teatowel
- Sleeping bag
- Sleeping mat
- Change of clothes for Sunday (including Scout uniform & scarf)
- Sunscreen & hat
- Toothbrush, soap, towel, other personal items as needed
