Coach and Team Information and Questions

  1. How does a new or returning coach sign up their team for the 2010-11 AYBL winter season?

All coaches (head coach and two assistant coaches) MUST register online by completing the Coach – Team registration form and click submit. All coaches must register online and be in the AYBL database for the liability and medical insurance to be in force.

  1. Do all team players have to also register online?

YES. All your team parents should complete the INDIVIDUAL PLAYER registration form and make sure they have your name as the head coach and also the team name before they click submit.

  1. How many players can you protect on your team?

The maximum AYBL team roster is ten (10) players. We recommend nine (9) players IF all of they will be at every game and do not have other sports and activities conflicts. A team or coach has to get written permission for any team roster that has more than ten players (11-12).

  1. Do coaches have to attend the 2010 AYBL Coaches meetings?

YES each team MUST have both coaches (both head or assistant coach) attend the MANDATORY RULES AND ORGANIZATION MEETING IN SEPTEMBER. Dates and times will be emailed to all registered coaches and also posted on the AYBL website well in advance of the meeting.

  1. How does a coach draft more players if their team does not have 8 players already on their team?

Coaches can attend the draft to select new players for their team as we have many kids looking for a team. Also you can view the parent ads on the Guestbook to contact parents only for kids looking for an AYBL team in their area of town for a team try out.

  1. How does a new coach attempt to secure a practice gym?

With 143 teams last year the AYBL League Office can only secure enough gym space from APS for games and tournaments (1300+ games in 2009-10). Coaches should ask their assistant and team parents to ask for gym time from the schools where the kids attend school. The League office will provide coachesAPSBuilding Useage forms and certificates of liability insurance required at the coaches meeting in September.

  1. Does every team have to have a team parent?

YES. We recommend that every team have a team parent to assist the head coach with AYBL registrations, uniform sizes and orders, team colors and team name, team website, and team schedules that will be posted on the website.

  1. Does every team have a free team website?

YES. MartySaizState Farm Insurance has donated a free team home web page to all AYBL registered teams. The team website can be used to post team practices, practice locations, game schedule, maps to gyms, and email team parents about any schedule changes due to school cancellations due to their school programs.
