What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual Enrollment is the opportunity for High School students to earn both High School and College credit by successfully completing designated AP approved courses offered at their school. Dual Enrollment would be offered as an option through an existing AP course.
What are the benefits of Dual Enrollment courses?
Students can jump start their college career from a four-year, regionally accredited university. Credits can be easily transferred to most colleges and programs upon High School graduation. Tuition for these courses is offered at a reduced rate which in turn helps students save money toward their college expenses. Students also build competence and confidence in their ability to manage college coursework.
How is Dual Enrollment different than Concurrent Enrollment?
One of the main differences is that Dual Enrollment courses are college courses held in a traditional classroom setting and taught by High School teachers. Students who complete a Dual Enrollment course will earn both high school and college credit.
Concurrent Enrollment is college level courses offered and delivered 100% online by Grand Canyon University and are not affiliated with the High School.High School students will participate and interact with college students. Although students can earn college credit upon completion of these courses, their ability to earn High School credit is determined by their High School Administration.
What is required of the high school for Dual Enrollment?
To participate in Dual Enrollment, the high school must sign an agreement with Grand Canyon University stating that the high school agrees to offer high school credit and the university to offer college credit for each student who successfully completes each designated course.
High Schools would also need to identify the AP courses that would include a Dual Enrollment option, submit the curriculum and textbook for each course to the University for Review as well as submit instructor transcripts to be approved by the University.
How many college credits would a student earn upon completion of each Dual Enrollment course?
Upon a successful grade of “C” or better, students would earn the equivalent college credits awarded by Grand Canyon University.
How do students register for these courses?
Students who wish to enroll into the Dual Enrollment program will need to complete a university registrationagreement and tuition payment form provided by their High Schools. Registration for Dual Enrollment courses would occur during the same time frame students would normally register for courses during their school year.
Who can register?
High School Juniors or seniors with a 2.8 GPA or higher would qualify to register for Dual Enrollment courses.
How much is tuition?
Dual Enrollment courses are $60.00 per credit hour.
Is financial aid available?
Federal Financial Aid programs are not available for these courses. High schools may choose to create a scholarship fund by charging an administrative fee for all courses.
How is tuition paid?
Students or Parents may pay by cash, check or credit card.
