Welcome to the Manteno Elementary School Library!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Hi! My name is Kim Keane and I am the librarian for 2nd through 4th graders. Students visit the library once a week for 25 minutes. They will check out new books and have the opportunity to start reading them during library. Throughout the year we will alternate between silent reading, reading and literacy centers, listening to stories, and other group activities. It is my hope that everything we do will encourage a love of reading and knowledge of library and research skills.
Please ask your child when his/her library day is and make a note of it. Also, I ask that you please help your child to remember to bring his/her library book(s) back on time and encourage proper book care at home. If your child forgets to return his/her book, a new book cannot be checked out until it is returned. Students who have trouble returning their library books on time may lose the privilege of bringing their books home. Lost or damaged books will cost the price of the book.
Turn your trash into cash! We are again collecting Box Tops and Campbell’s Soup Labels for Education. The money we earn will go toward helping ALL Manteno School libraries. There are both classroom and individual incentives throughout the year. Classroom incentives will be for the class in each grade level who collects the most Box Tops each incentive period. Also, the student in each grade level who brings in the most Campbell’s Soup Labels for Education will get to pick a fun prize each incentive period. This first incentive period ends on October 21st. The next incentive periods are October 22nd through February 21st and February 22nd through May 5th. In addition, throughout the year students who bring their Box Tops glued/taped/stapled to a Box Tops Collection Sheet will get their name entered into a random drawing for a $50 gift card in May. Collection sheets can always be found in the library or downloaded from the school website by clicking on “Library” and then “Forms”.
We will again be sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair this year. We had such a great turnout last year and will do our best to make it another fun family night this year. Attending the Book Fair is a great way for you to find books for your favorite children at a low cost. Once the dates are set and you would like to volunteer to help with the Book Fair please let me know!
If at any time you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Kim Keane
