Congratulations to the Entire Parish!!!
We had another very successful Christmas Giving Tree Event. Thank you very much for all the kind and generous donations. St. Michaels is very grateful for all the warm coats, educational toys and gift cards for the children of their parish. Your overwhelming generosity will benefit many kids in and around Saint Michael Parish, Hartford. A special thank you to the Wenner and Lang families for coordinating this event. Their dedication and energy in making it all happen is an inspiration.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
The Glastonbury conference of St. Vincent de Paul Society is once againlooking for Christmas sponsors for our lessfortunate families. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. We know that everyone’s budget is tight due to the economy. If you cannot help with sponsoring a family, perhaps you can purchase a gift card in any denomination to Stop & Shop, Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Kohl’s, Bob’s, or any kind of gas card. Please call the parish office (860 633-3317) if you would like to help or to learn more about being a sponsor.
ADVENT JOURNEY INTO CATHOLICISM 2011
Our own Deacon Ron Daigle will conduct the Advent Journey into Catholicism (Wednesday evenings) from 7:00 to 8:00 pm in Fr. Bannon Hall, November 30, December 7, 14 and 21. Deacon Ron will explore some Advent themes in the new series of Catholicism by Robert Barron, a priest and theologian. We will consider how the upcoming Advent and Christmas seasons provide new opportunities to examine our Catholic faith and its modern relevance in our world today. These sessions are a wonderful way to celebrate the anticipation of the Advent season—please join us!

Charitable IRA Rollover
Have you been waiting for the federal government to make it easier to give? If so, this may be your opportunity.
Current tax legislation permits people over 70½ to donate from their IRA or Roth IRA to non-profit institutions such as St. Dunstan Parish or the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal without paying the deferred income tax. Instead of taking the required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA, you can donate the required amount to your parish or the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal.
Gifts must be transferred directly from an IRA to the parish or the AAA, are not be treated as taxable income, and count towards the RMD for the year. A Charitable IRA Rollover is not deductible as a charitable contribution and is allowed until the end of 2011.
You can transfer up to $100,000 total to as many organizations as you like in 2011. Please contact Bob McTiernan in the Archdiocesan Office of Development for further information; his phone number is (860) 547-0513.
Mary received and responded to the Lord's will through the invitation of an angel. Who are God's messengers in your life? Listen to God speaking to you through them. Michael Dolan, Director of Vocations, Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary, Tel. 860-761-7456, e-mail vocations@stseminaryor visit the web at www.vocationshartford.org.
